1. What is a coordinate?

A coordinate is a set of numbers that define a point in a plane.

2. What NC code can be used to Home the system?

G28 can be used to Home the system.

3. What is another name for Work Coordinates?

Another name for work coordinates is workpiece origin.

4. What is Machine Home?

It returns the machine to the machine zero point, and acts as a reference point
for all operations.

5. Where is Machine Home?

It is located at the top, front, left corner of the work envelope.

Task 6-5: Team Discussion and Review

1. What do you think would happen if you set the workpiece origin first, and then
homed the machine, to the wrong position?

The machine would not be able to execute its function properly due to the
location of the workpiece on the cross slide not being established properly by the origin.

2. Do you think you could have the workpiece origin somewhere other than the
top-front-left corner of the workpiece?

Yes, it is possible because the NC program can be written to reference the


alternate workpiece origin.
