Plants in Ethno-gynecology:

Gynecology or can be written as gynaecology is a vast field of medical sciences that


deals with study of health of females specially related to the problems of reproductive system
including uterus, ovaries and vagina.
A new emerging branch of gynecology is known as ethno-gynecology. It is related to the
cure and prevention of diseases that are related to the reproductive system of the females like
related to menstruation cycle, problems after menopause, leucorrhea, morning sickness,
infertility, delivery problems etc. Ethno-gynecological medicines includes traditional beliefs,
folk knowledge, skills, methods and procedures which are responsible for the treatment diseases
and used as alternative to allopathic medicines.
It is universal fact that plants have potential for treatment of various diseases. These are
used as whole plant or only a single component or single part of plant can be used to cure and
prevent the diseases. Since the earlier time, women in tribal areas depend upon the use of plants
that have very good medicinal effects for these ailments. They commonly use these plants to
prevent and to treat these diseases of reproductive system. This may be due to the lack of
medical professional or lack of medical facilities and equipments. These plants provide cheap
and best alternate mean to treat gynecological complications.

Plants in Ethno-veterinary:
Plants are being used for medicinal purposes by local inhabitants since earliest times. It is a
recognized fact that plants serve a potent medicine for curing various diseases. Ethnoveterinary
medicine generally means the folks beliefs, knowledge skills, methods and practices pertaining
to the health of animals, which play a vital role in rural areas as chief source of medicine being
used to cure livestock. The use of ethnoveterinary medicine presents a cheaper and sustainable
alternative to synthetic medicines. Ethnoveterinary medicines are as older as the domestication
of various animal species. These herbal preparations, drawing upon centuries of traditional belief
and use, are in practice over time by pastoralists and farmers for the treatment of different
diseases of livestock.
