READING COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS


It is important students read the information independently, and then
discuss it after reading. Here are some questions to help facilitate
discussions and understanding.

CYCLES 19-23
Part 1:
1. Could this information be true? Why or why not?
2. Do you like this story/ information? Why or why not?
3. Would you like to be a character from the story? Why or why not?

Part 2: KNOWLEDGE
1. Tell what the information /story is about.
The story is about night racing, at the beginning, the text tells how the first
night race in Formula One history developed and how the drivers adapted
to participate in this race.
Then, formula one races began to take place in different countries around
the world. The United States, Europe and Asia.
Then, formula one racing and the environment, racing teams are working to
make the cars better and pollute less.
And finally the text tells us that women are increasingly participating in
these careers.
2. Find the two most interesting sentences in the
story/information.
- No woman has ever won a Formula One Championship race, because the
Formula One racing is more difficult for women because of the forces on
the driver’s necks when they brake
- Why are there not more women drivers in Formula One?
Because sponsors are more supportive of men than women.

Part 3: COMPREHENSION
1. Locate sentences or phrases in the information you do
not understand and infer the meanings.

When cars brake, the energy that the car has when it is moving is changed to heat.
- I guess when the car brakes, the energy that it causes is directed to the engine.

The place of every light was planned to stop them shining into the driver’s eyes.
- I suppose the lights were in a very high place or far away from the tracks

Part 4: APPLICATION
1. Give an example of someone you know who is like one of
the characters in the story / information.
My mom, she's like the women who participated in the races, those women never gave up
and made their dreams come true despite the adversities.
Part 5: SYNTHESIS
1. What changes would you make to the story/
information?
If I were one of those sponsors, I would have supported those women who wanted to
participate, to prove that car racing is not a sport only for men, and women don't have
to be discriminated of this sport.
