Turn into Indirect/ Reported Speech:


1. He said to her “I have seen them today.”
2. The boy said “Mother don’t be angry”
3. I asked my friend “Why have you come so late?”
4. Tom said “Hello, Mary.”
5. The teacher asked the pupils “Did you study Shakespeare last year?”
6. Mary told her mother “I’ll write to you every week.”
7. The officer said “Start digging, soldiers”
8. “Yes, you are right”, Peter said.
9. “How much water do you have in that bottle?”, the teacher asked.
10. “You must be ready by ten o’clock”, the assistant told him.

II. Match Direct Speech sentences with Indirect Speech sentences:


You may not believe it, but I took it.
Look, if I were you, I’d start raising some money from my studies.
I know, it’s silly but I can’t remember your name.
Well, if you don’t mind I’ll have the fish pie.

III. Rewrite the following sentences in Reported Speech using the appropriate
introductory verb:
