Section A : Directed Writing

[35 marks]
[Time suggested : 45 minutes]

Your friend has been transferred to another state to follow her/his parents. She/he has written to
you sharing her/his difficulty getting new friends and coping with school environment. Write
her/him a letter giving her/him some advice and tips to get new friends and suggestions to fill
her/his free time.

 to lay out the letter correctly (address, greeting, closing)



 to add two more points

 to use all the notes given

 that your letter is to a friend

Note : for your letter, you will receive up to 15 marks for the format and content points, and up
to 20 marks for the quality of your writing

Section B : Continuous Writing
[50 marks]
[Time suggested : One hour]

Write a composition of about 350 words on one of the following topics.

1. Write a story when you helped a friend who was ill. In your story, describe who your friend
was, the illness and what you did to help your friend.

2. If you had the chance to be somebody else for one day, who would you want to be?
Explain your reasons.

3. Teenage depression is becoming more serious nowadays. Discuss what should teenagers
and their parents do to overcome this problem.

4. Write a story about a taxi driver who saved a child from being kidnapped. Begin
your story with, “I was standing by the side of the road when suddenly…”

5. Describe the time when you won a competition.


You should write about what the competition was about and how you felt about winning.
