distance education?

What does the literature/research say about this issue/topic? By using NAU
Library or Online Search engines, conduct a literature review.
 You need to include 5 different sources (book, journal article, web article
etc.) in your review. Try to use current sources as much as possible.
 You need to summarize and synthesize your sources by discussing a
common theme or issue. 
 You don't need to critique your sources
 You don't need to evaluate your sources (if the sources are trustworthy,
weather the author has a bias or not)
 You need to provide background information such as history and
definitions
Literature Review:

Distance education was first introduced in 1980, mostly limited to print,

correspondence, occasional audio cassettes and even more occasional audio conferences

(Colin,2009). With the development of technology, the possibilities of distance education

have increased.

“Early barriers of alternative learning environments in high schools were: the lack

of technology, the cost to install and maintain sophisticated technology, and attitudinal

barriers of faculty and administrators. Even though these barriers still exist today,

alternative learning environments are becoming the wave of the future.” (Lawrence,

2009, p.1)

According to the results of the study, 80% of the participants listed the possibility

of working and studying at the same time, 77% listed the flexibility of taking the class at

anytime and anywhere as the advantages of distance education. Also, according to 46%

of the participants, lack of live interaction is one of the disadvantages of distance

education. (Serhan, 2010).
