Answer the following questions:

1. Why teachers are called “persons in authority”? Give valid reasons.

Answer:
According to article 152 of B.P. 873 or the Revised Penal Code, a teacher is any person
directly vested with jurisdiction, whether as an individual or as member of some court or governmental
corporation, board, or commission, shall be deemed a person in authority. A Barangay captain and a
Barangay chairman shall also be deemed a person in authority.
It is also any person who, by direct provision of law or by election or by appointment by
competent authority, is charged with the maintenance of public order and the protection and security of
life and property, such as barrio councilman and Barangay leader, and any person who comes to the aid
of a person in authority, shall be deemed an agent of a person in authority.
Due to the fact that the teacher is in the role of the manager of the class, they require power in
another form, the authority to influence students’ behavior. This could be termed “teacher authority”.
Teacher authority is, in a sense, “the right to ask others to do something”. As teachers we need to ask
students to do many things in a day, and we need to make our requests out of some basis of authority.
Without it, we would have little efficacy.
Instruction or class management is a part of education and is referred as a part of educational activities
that takes place with presence of the teacher in classroom. Four special traits can be found in the definition of the
instruction, including: interaction between teacher and students, activity based upon predetermined objectives,
organized design with view to situation and facilities, developing opportunities and facilitating learning (Zahed
Babelan, 2012).
