Assignment no 4
Objective:
Study the Characteristics of Series and Parallel Diode Configuration.
Material required:
Personal computer and install multisim in it.
Theory:
Diodes are connected inside the circuit in two configurations. These configurations are:
 Series configuration
 Parallel configuration
Series Configuration:
Series connection means a side by side connection. When two components are connected in
series, they have one common junction. The variation of voltage and current in a series
connection is as follows:
 Potential difference across every component is different.
 The current across every component connected in series remains the same.
The same properties also hold true for diodes when they are connected in a series configuration.
Diode Characteristics in Series Configuration:
When connected in series, we observe the following properties to hold true among the diodes:
 Resultant diode’s forward voltage increases.
 Reverse blocking capabilities of diodes are increased in series connection.
Parallel configuration:
Parallel connection means the components are connected across each other, having two
common points. Current differs across each component while voltage drop is same. When diodes
are connected in parallel, this same trend is observed.
Diode Characteristics in Parallel Configuration:
 Current carrying capacity increases.
 No conduction in resultant diode in both sides.

NI Ultiboard. Multisim is one of the few circuit design programs to employ the
original Berkeley SPICE based software simulation. Multisim was originally
created by a company named Electronics Workbench, which is now a division of
National Instruments. Multisim includes microcontroller simulation (formerly
known as MultiMCU), as well as integrated import and export features to the
printed circuit board layout software in the suite, NI Ultiboard.
Procedure:
1. First open multisim software.
2. After this see your circuit how much resister is required and battery and Ac
source.
3. Set all resisters and sources.
4. Set the value of circuit.
5. And set it with wires.
6. Set the multimeter where the current and voltage find.
7. And after do this your circuit is complete.
8. Run the circuit and shown voltage or current in multimeter.
9. At the end you can write the value of circuit.

Conclusion:
At the end of this lab, you know about multisim software and draw some
circuit in it and find voltage, current and characteristics of series and parallel diode
configuration in it.
