Assignment 1 – Part 2

Dataset C – UK Cities Size

➢ Communicate the information on the slides clearly and professionally (20%)
If this is your chosen dataset, you have to perform the data manipulation following the
instructions below and demonstrate your MS Power Point proficiency by demonstrating the
manipulation steps/process with the final outcomes suing PowerPoint with no more than 10
slides, including a Cover Page.
➢ Explanation of the following techniques, during the Presentation for
Viva/Demonstration (30%)
You will be given a different data set drawn randomly (which will be different to the one you
had performed for your MS PowerPoint) and present the data manipulation live in class in
front of your tutor, on your PC Terminal, within a specified time-limit.
In this case, you
You will be given a different data set drawn randomly (which will be different to the one you
had performed for your MS PowerPoint) and present the data manipulation live in class in
front of your tutor, on your PC Terminal, within a specified time-limit.
In this case, you
1) Will get a prepopulated data set in paper printed format similar to the table shown below
2) May not necessarily be asked every question below and questions could be changed.
3) Will be informed that questions like Q11 – Q15 will carry the most marks due to the
complexity of the Excel Functions.
4) MUST complete the presentation strictly within 30 minutes, including converting the text
below into Excel Spreadsheet; manipulating the necessary data in MS Excel and
uploading your completed Excel to the correct assignment folder.
5) MUST follow any given instructions correctly, including the file naming convention,
uploading to the correct folder etc.

Note: You MUST use “ , ”, the correct number format and decimal places (i.e. 2 d.p.).

1. Create the above spread sheet with the formatting as shown above (including 11-
size Arial font, Font Colour and shading, words on different lines in a cell, etc.). You
MUST start at A1. You must follow the suggested naming convention of the file as stated in
the instructions for submission.

2. Write a formula in B1 that gives the current date.

3. Write a formula in B2 that gives the number of cities in the file.

4. Write a formula in D4 that gives the status of each city. The status is “High” if
Populations is greater than 600k. Otherwise the status is “Low”. Do the same for
every city. Hint: Use “,” in the numbers.

5. Write a formula at E4 that calculates the % increase of populations in people (i.e.

Current Populations × % of Increase). Drag the E4 cell for every city.
Hint: You have to use Absolute Referencing.

6. Write a formula at F4 to calculate the projected Populations in 2020 (i.e. Current

Populations + % of Increase of Populations). Apply this to every City.

7. Write a formula at B11 to calculate the Total Populations in 2020.

8. Write a formula at B12 to calculate the Average Populations in 2020.

9. Write a formula at B13 that gives the Highest Populations (2020).

10. Write a formula at B14 that gives the Lowest Populations (2020).

11. Write a formula at E11 to calculate the Total Populations (2020) for Cities with Rank 1.
12. Write a formula at E12 to calculate the Average Populations (2020) for Cities with rank
2.

13. Write a formula at E13 that will give the number of Cities (2020) with Populations
greater than 600,000 habitants.

14. Write a formula at E14 that will give the number of Cities (2020) with Populations less
than 500,000 habitants.

15. Create a chart on the same sheet, comparing both the Populations as a column and
the Net Populations as the line chart. The title should be “Populations between 2019
and 2020 for UK Cities” (ignore the “”). Label the axes correctly. Use the “Tell Me
What To Do” feature, if needed. The legends must be in the plot area
