Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Vol. 9 Issue 21 21 June 2020

WELCOMING

Amongst my close friends and family I am definitely known as a huggy

person. For me one of the best things was welcoming my 3 year old niece
back in to my arms once again post lockdown following that long period of
physical separation. At that moment, all thoughts and worries left me and I
was truly present in the moment.

The sacrament of the present moment, is a gift of what is. It is an invitation

to welcome God, the source of life and love, to see things in their beauty
and potential, and to believe that our life may be for others as well as for
ourselves.

But sometimes welcomes don’t always seem like welcomes. Just like many
artists, poets, musicians and other creatives we know even through the
difficult times in life, or perhaps especially through the difficult times we are
offered the most potential to change and grow, to reveal more of ourselves.
To welcome is to welcome the difficulties and the challenges. It is to
welcome truth, to discern and to be distilled by the things that matter, all
guided by God’s love.

Just as we all shared in the responsibility of welcoming tourists, visitors and

worshippers to our Cathedral prior to its closure, may we remember that we
were made for welcome. We were made to hold out our hands and our
hearts, not to be self-contained. And as we move towards the welcome
embrace of our home, our Cathedral, may our faith carry us to the Sacred
Heart of Jesus where we will find all the strength, and the love we need for
our journey.

- Michael Fletcher, Director of Music

12.10pm Mass now Tuesday to Friday - We no longer have a priest available

for 12.10pm Mass on Mondays, however a liturgy of the Word with Holy
Communion will be held in its place. To help sustain this going forward we do
need people to share in the leading of this liturgy and who are available to go
on a roster (once a month). Training will be given. If you are interested please
contact Frank in the Parish Office.
Liturgical Practices During Alert Level One—
Cardinal John has advised that the following guidelines for our liturgical
practices remain in place for the meantime:
Holy Communion - The faithful are to receive Holy Communion in the hand
only, and not from the chalice.
Sign of Peace - The exchange of peace can be by spoken word, by a
gesture such as bowing, or by a pause for silent prayer for peace.
Holy Water Fonts - are to remain without Holy Water.
These guidelines will be re-evaluated as further health advice is given, or in
one month’s time.

As a parish, we understand that some people will want to wait a while before
returning to the public celebration of Mass. Everyone must feel able to use
their own judgement on this, and you remain in our hearts and our community
even if we won’t see you for some time yet. The dispensation from the
obligation to attend Sunday Mass continues until further notice.
