EASTERN VISAYAS

BALANGGIGA CHURCH AND BELL- The Balangiga bells are three church bells that were taken by the United States
Army from the Church of San Lorenzo de Martir in Balangiga, Eastern Samar, Philippines, as war trophies after
reprisals following the Balangiga massacre in 1901 during the Philippine–American War.

HOMONHON ISLAND- Homonhon Island is an island in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines, on the east
side of Leyte Gulf. The 20-kilometre long island is part of the municipality of Guiuan, encompassing eight
barangays: Bitaugan, Cagusu-an, Canawayon, Casuguran, Culasi, Habag, Inapulangan, and Pagbabangnan. It is
also wher Magellan first landed.

BIRI ROCK FORMATION- They are formed by the combination of movements of tectonic plates, unforgiving
waves of the Pacific Ocean and San Bernardino Strait crashing into the limestones, and blistering winds that
fashion the long parallel lines on the side of the giant rocks.

CAPUL CHURCH- The San Ignacio de Loyola Parish Church, commonly known as Capul Church or Fuerza de
Capul, is a Roman Catholic fortress church in the municipality of Capul, Northern Samar, Philippines within the
jurisdiction of the Diocese of Catarman.

LANGUN GOBINGOB CAVE- The Langun-Gobingob Cave System also known as Calbiga cave is a cave system
located at Calbiga within the Samar Island Natural Park. It covers an area of approximately 2,968 hectares. The
cave system has 12 caves including Langun, Gobingob, Lurodpon and Bitong Mahangin.

ULOT RIVER- The Ulot River is the longest river in Samar, the third largest island in the Philippines. The river runs
from San Jose de Buan in the Samar Province and discharges into the Philippine Sea. It has a length of
approximately 90 km. 

SAN JUANICO BRIDGE- San Juanico Bridge or Marcos Bridge is part of the Pan-Philippine Highway and stretches
from Samar to Leyte across the San Juanico Strait in the Philippines. Its longest length is a steel girder viaduct built
on reinforced concrete piers, and its main span is of an arch-shaped truss design.

MACARTHUR LANDING MEMORIAL NATIONAL PARK- The MacArthur Leyte Landing Memorial National Park is a
protected area of the Philippines that commemorates the historic landing of General Douglas MacArthur in Leyte
Gulf at the start of the campaign to recapture and liberate the Philippines from Japanese occupation on 20 October
1944.

AGAS-AGAS BRIDGE- The Agas-Agas Bridge is a prestressed concrete beam bridge on the Pan-Philippine
Highway. The ₱1.024-billion bridge was funded partially by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

MONTE CUEVA- Accessed by a steep stairway, this Catholic shrine features a chapel in a cave & an amphitheater.
MAINIT HOTSPRING IN CAINIRAN- The Mainit Hot Spring is located in Brgy. Villavicenta, about 25 mins from
Caibiran town and 1 hr from Naval. A portion of the river is warmed by pockets of bubbling hot springs. Prior to a
large flood, there were two small pools and a cement structure where people may sit while warm water massages
their back.

SAMBUAN ISLAND- Sambawan Island is located 5km of the west coast of Maripipi Municipality, south of the Samar
sea, is fast becoming the most visited attraction by the tourists. The semi- curved beach with soaring rock
formations covered with green grass as a backdrop create a bubble of fantasy that you are entering another
dimension.
ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA
JOSE RIZAL MEMORIAL PROTECTED LANDSCAPE- The José Rizal Memorial Protected Landscape, also known as
the Rizal Park and Shrine, is a protected landscape and memorial to the Philippines' national hero located in the city
of Dapitan on the island of Mindanao

MI RETIRO ROCK- The rock got its name from Rizal's poem "Mi Retiro" which he wrote its first few stanzas
while sitting on this rock. It is also called "Lover's Rock" as it is the favorite spot of Rizal and Josephine
Bracken. ... Before leaving the shrine, I had a souvenir photo with "the" Dr. Jose Rizal.

RELIEF MAP OF MINDANAO- The Relief Map of Mindanao was repaired in 1925-1928 during the time Jose
Aseniero became Governor of Zamboanga, who is also a former student of Rizal. The Relief Map of
Mindanao became a historical symbol in March 13, 2002 and became a cultural treasure of the Philippine
Museum in June 20, 2005.

BADJAO BURIAL GROUNDS-  The Badjao burial ground is an interesting site if you are into indigenous culture and
history. Sta. Cruz Island not only a place for an awesome time at the beach but will also let you have a glimpse on the
culture and traditions of our Badjao brothers and sisters.

TALUKSANGAY MOSQUE- The Taluksangay Mosque was built by Hadji Abdullah Maas Nuno in 1885 in the
Barangay Taluksangay, Zamboanga, the Philippines. It is the oldest mosque in Western Mindanao. Taluksangay
was the first center of Islamic propagation in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

PAJARES AVENUE- The town finally became a city on June 6, 1952 when Congressman Roseller Lim authored the R.A.
711 which divides Zamboanga, the region where Pagadian is, into two provinces: Norte and Sur. Pagadian became the
capital of Zamboanga del Sur and, on June 21, 1969, via R.A. 5478, became a chartered city.

ROTUNDA OBELISK- The rotunda obelisk in Ipil was inaugurated in 2015 to mark the province as a central
part of Zamboanga peninsula. It serves also as a memorial to those lives lost in conflicts. The 1995 Ipil attack
by 200 Abu Sayyaf militants was one of the saddest days in the province.

MINI DISNEYLAND THEME PARK- The Municipality of Ipil in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay in Mindanao has been
dubbed as “Little Disneyland” for its annual celebration of Festival of Lights which culminates on February 28, 2019. The
3-month long celebration which started November 2018 showcases the creativity of 10 participating local government
units, agencies, and local cooperatives to transform the provincial capitol grounds into a large collection of internationally-
anticipated theme parks including the well-known home of Mickey Mouse, the Disneyland.

BULUAN ISLAND- Buluan Island, located some 7 kilometers from the port of Ipil, features white sand beach
and clear blue waters. Away from commercialization, the island offers seclusion and tranquility. At present,
visits to the island must be coordinated with the provincial tourism office.

KABUG MANGROVE PARK AND WETLANDS- The mangrove area is part of the Siay-Kabasalan Wetlands, that
serves as a roosting, foraging and stop-over grounds for migratory birds. The Sibugay Wetlands is a proposed
Ramsar Site (Wetland of International Importance). It's a good destination for birdwatchers and nature lovers.
