RESULTS
This
chapter
gives
the
results
of
the
user
test
at
Deaf
Nation
Expo.
The

data
from the experiment is in Appendix H. The following is a discussion of the user reactions to
The first animation depicted the WH nonmanual signal and happy affect (sentence
1). In response to the first question, participants were able to replicate the utterance 100%
of the time. Seventy percent rated the animation as clear or very clear, as seen in Table 4.
Participants who thought the animation appeared happy outnumber those who found it

Test participants showed even more consensus when viewing the animation
depicting the WH nonmanual signal and angry affect. They could replicate the utterance
100% of the time. Fifty-‐five percent rated the animation as clear or very clear (Table 6).
Eighty-‐five percent correctly identified the intended emotional state (Table 7). When asked
to comment, some responses were: “She looks mean”, “She looks angry”, and “Definitely not
nice.”
