METH METHOD STATEMENT FOR INSIDE WORKING OF PONTOONS

1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this method statement is to safeguard personnel who enter the
pontoons.

2. SCOPE

This method statement covers the safety requirements of physical entry into
pontoons, and is applicable at GULF FARABI n-PARAFFIN & LAB PROJECT.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1 Standby Man

3.1.1 Maintaining the conditions and requirements listed on the work permit.

3.1.2 Remaining at the point of entry at all times when personnel are inside
the pontoons.

3.1.3 Keeping track of the personnel entering & leaving the pontoons
through a confined space entry log sheet.

3.1.4 Maintaining contact with person(s) inside the pontoons by voice , rope
signal or hand horn.

3.2 Safety Officer

3.2.1 Reviewing and developing a clear understanding with SNC-LAVALIN/


GULF FARABI Safety department regarding the requirements of the
work permit.

3.2.2 Monitoring conditions in the adjacent areas for situations that could
endanger personnel working inside the pontoons.

3.2.3 Stopping the work if condition demands.

3.2.4 Monitoring of hazardous atmosphere e.g. Oxygen deficiency, presence


of CO2, SO2 or fumes etc every 2-hours or more, when work is
stopped for 30-minutes or more.

3.2.5 Ensuring temperature is safe for work.

4. PROCEDURE/METHOD

4.1 SNC-LAVALIN work permit shall be obtained before start of job.


4.2 A safety toolbox meeting shall be conducted with all involved prior to start
the job.

4.3 A standby man shall be deputed at point of entry, and shall be having a first
aid & CPR training.

4.4 Adequate illumination shall be provided using 24V lights.

4.5 All electrical tools & sources will be only 24V.

4.6 Exhaust fan will be installed at man way for proper ventilation.

4.7 The entrant & standby man will communicate each other through rope signal
or voice after every ten minutes.

4.8 The standby man and entrant(s) will be provided training by OLAYAN
DESCON for safe working inside the pontoons.

4.9 The entrant (welder) shall get outside the pontoons after every 30 minutes
to have fresh air breathing, or whenever he feels uncomforted.

4.10 No hot work shall be carried out without obtaining HOT WORK Permit.
