MARKETS TO SELL MORE PEANUTS
Last week, SMUCKERS, behind Folgers coffee and Jif peanut butter, reported that net sales climbed to $2.1 billion for
the quarter ending April 30, a 10% increase compared to the same period last year.
According to one Instagram food account, the Planters classic peanut tins now have a photo of Baby Nut holding a peanut
on the front with a label that reads "That's one cute nut!" These tins do have a limited-edition label on them so there's no telling how
long they'll be in stores (or if other products will have Baby Nut on them soon).
Sales of peanut butter have overtaken those of jam in the UK, IRI data has revealed. Brands are putting this boost down
to peanut butter’s versatility and health credentials. “Peanut butter offers an easy and tasty way to add more nutrition to breakfast
and snack choices – which more consumers are beginning to recognize,” said Whole Earth brand controller Kirstie Hawkins. In the
mid-80’s, Tyron and an APC farmer team from Georgia helped
to introduce SunPat Peanut butter to the British consumers.
ARGENTINA CROP UPDATE – Argentine peanut crop is
getting closer to completing peanut harvest, well ahead of the
past few years. Final In-Shell production is expected to reach
1,264,000 MT (1,393,322 tons) with 580,000 MT (639,340 tons)
of shelled peanuts for export in direct competition with U.S.
Exports. The crop was dug on a timely basis and generally
escaped frost damage. Low temps and no recorded rainfall have
encouraged drying of windrowed peanut facilitation the drying.
Harvested peanuts are entering the shelling plants with very little
moisture. Lots are only requiring pre-cleaning. No mold or
aflatoxin problem has been observed.

Director of the Federal-State Inspection Services for the South
Carolina Department of Agriculture as Jack Dantzler has
