UNIVERSITY Educating Tomorrow’s Leaders WORKSHOP - PROGRAM ACADEMIC YEAR 2019-2020

Semester 2 OnLine Course Prof. PhD. Tearanel Te

WORKSHOP
Redesign of the Existing Canteen adjacent to the North Façade of the IFL
main Building

Statement
During this second semester students discover a new aspect of the language of modern architecture, that of call
"Open Box". Until now, the student uses only one type of space in the design of his architecture project, that of
call "Closed Box". The new open space also involves the layout of a new supporting structure, new material, new
construction techniques and a new consideration of the project as a whole.

Content of the draft and project site
The original IFL project consisted of buildings with simple geometric shapes. Over time, the needs are felt to add
various annexes due to the increase in the number of students and professors. Thus, on the North facade of the
main building was grafted two volumes of a ephemeral architecture. Which makes one aspect a certain visual
mess. The first volume is directly adjacent to the main building of the IFL; it houses faculty members and staff. The
second volume corresponds to the canteen for students and the public as well as a small grocery store and a
small printing room. Faced with this somewhat heterogeneous situation, the students are led to propose a total
new layout of the canteen. The project also includes a thingking for the development of outdoor and landscaped
spaces and public lighting.

Working organization
This project of this semester will be made in individual according to the recommendations of the Professor.

Scale of Drawings, plans an asked documents
. Priority documents are plans, sections and elevations.
. Besides the plans, the students are encouraged to produce drawings freehand that is statements on the spot,
perspectives.
. 3D virtual views are also authorized but by limiting their number. The accent and the importance are given to
the drawings of sketch freehand.

Schedule of rendering and intermediate criticism
. In order to ensure the continuous progress of the project, it is important that student presents their production
in the intermediate critical sessions on a regular basis. In this way, he will be able to share his ability to draw an
his though with the whole class.
. A list of passage will be established to determine precisely the passing time as well as the exact duration of each
strudent or group.
