SELF-STUDY GUIDE
Week 4-6

Guys, this guide has been developed for you to study and learn more, do your
best and remember that together, your classmates, the teacher and you, we’ll
achieve this goal. Let’s get started.

Methodology:

 As you already know we will be developing our classes online. For which
we will be using the platforms Teams and Ferrum.
 I will schedule meetings every week through the platform Teams.
 I will upload all the information regarding the classes on Ferrum.
 We will develop our classes in 10 weeks. Each week we will work on a
different communicative subject.
 Every three weeks I will share with you on Ferrum a self-study guide, such
as this one, with different activities for you to work on autonomously.

Communicative objectives from week 4 to 6:


 Talk about an important person from your past
Used to, the past simple, would, and was always for past habits
 Share real or imaginary stories about the past
Past perfect simple and past perfect continuous
 Write and perform a radio commercial
 Extended listening and speaking
Discuss fears
Present perfect simple and past simple with time expressions

WEEK 4

Competence: Talk about an important person from your past


Used to, the past simple, would, and was always for past habits
Let’s study this first.

Would ( always/never) + base form


Used to talk about habits or customs in the past.

(Always/ never) use to + base form 


Used to talk about habits or cuestioms in the past, or to express somethings that was true in
the past, but is no longer true.

Be + always  + ing form (present or past progressive)


Used to talk about habits or customs in the present and past

Examples

Anita would never remember to buy milk on her way home.


They used to smoke after taking an exam
They were always laughing and joking 
She was always singing

 Competence: Share real or imaginary stories about the past


Past perfect simple and past perfect continuous

Let’s study first.

The use of past progressive:


 puts emphasis on the course of an action in the past
Example: He was playing football.

 two actions happening at the same time (in the past)


Example: While she was preparing dinner, he was washing the dishes.

 action going on at a certain time in the past


Example: When I was having breakfast, the phone suddenly rang.
