Levels of Technology Integration:

☒ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The technology tool, BrainPop, is available in multiple languages and a
written transcript of the video is also available. The video on BrainPop gives students a great introduction to
the topic of the American Indians, and viewing the video before diving into the unit can help students start to
ask questions pertaining to the material, and it also peaks students interest in the material that is coming
next.

Lesson idea implementation: Students will watch Brain Pop video as a class. Students will then be instructed
to retrieve laptops from the laptop cart. Students will be instructed to log into BrainPop and search
“American Indians”. Students may watch the video again individually if needed. Students will then use the
“Create a map” tab on the BrainPop American Indians page to create a map of where the American Indians
lived. Students may use the resources listed on the BrainPop “American Indians” page to create their maps,
but may not use additional resources unless instructed. Once students have completed their map, they must
raise their hand and I will go around and check on the accuracy and completion of the map. Once students
have had their maps checked by me, they are to save copy of their map onto their account for study
purposes. Students must then complete the BrainPop quiz based on the “American Indians” video. Once all
students have completed the quiz, laptops will be shut down and returned to the laptop cart. To wrap up the
lesson, students will participate in a whole group discussion about what they learned from the video and how
they created their maps.
Reflective Practice: I feel that the activities I have created will help students form a base of understanding for
the topic ahead. This lesson plan would be used at the beginning of a unit on American Indians, and to further
this lesson, I could have students compare the maps they made to a real map of where American Indians
lived. An additional technology tool that could be used would be an additional video about where and how
American Indians lived.
