This information provides an overview of the fault codes (and FMI codes) that are used
to identify active and inactive faults in the VOLVO D12D engine.

For detailed information about individual fault codes, as well as symptom fault tracing,
refer to diagnostic information in IMPACT and the VCADS Pro tool.

Volvo Injectors (MID 128 SID 1 – 6)

3 Short circuit to battery voltage, unit injector low side.
5 Open circuit in actuator circuit.
Short circuit to battery voltage (injector high side).
Short circuited injector (injector low voltage side).
Short circuit to ground (injector low or high voltage side).
7 Mechanical system does not respond correctly.
12 Resistance too high in injector.

Freeze Frames
The information shown in the “freeze frames” panel of
VCADS Pro is an overview of values when certain fault
codes become active. These values (before, during, and
after the fault code appears) can be helpful to trace the
problem.

Freeze frames are active only when a fault code indicat-


ing a mechanical fault is set. Check the values that refer
to the fault code.

Example:
If the value is near the alarm limit for a while before the
fault code becomes active, this may indicate contamina-
tion of certain filters or liquids.

If the value suddenly increases or decreases before the


fault code becomes active, this may indicate an open cir-
cuit or short circuit.
