Dear Children,

Our space expedition comes to an end and we are soon going to begin with our
next EVS theme project ‘Air’. Air isn’t always the easiest thing to see, hear,
touch, smell, or taste. Sometimes we have to do a little detective work to even
know it’s there. Take a moment and think …

Can you see air ?

Can you smell it ?

Can you touch air ?

Can you hear the wind moving ?

What sound does it make ?

Does air have any taste ?

The project includes some fun and informative activities for you including,
cooking an air soup, creating a whistle, conducting experiments, data handling
and doing an interview too. Please note that you must attempt all the
experiments under adult supervision.

There are some questions that you only have to orally discuss with your family
whereas some you have to answer in your Project Book. In case you do not have
your project book you may use any rough notebook or create your own little
booklet by using recyclable paper.

So fasten your seat belts once again and get ready to fly high in the air.
Air, Air…… Everywhere!!!

Air is essential for life. Air is all around us. It is our basic need. All living things
need air to live. We inhale and exhale air, during breathing. Air is a mixture of
gases. We cannot see air, but we can only feel its presence.

We can feel the presence of air:

(i) When we switch on the fan; things like pages of book and curtains
move.

(ii) When we sit in front of cooler; our clothes and hair move.

(iii) When we blow air into a balloon; its size increases.

Sing Along!

Air is here, air is there,

Air is everywhere!

It’s near you, it’s near your friend,

It’s near everyone!

When you think that nothing is there,

Think again – air is everywhere.

Air is present everywhere around us. It’s air that helps birds, kites
and hot air balloons to fly, clothes to dry and pin wheel, spin.
AIR SOUP

Think about your favourite soup. Soups have a

whole list of ingredients. List some of the
ingredients in your favourite soup. How does each
ingredient make a difference? Does the soup still
taste the same if an ingredient is reduced or
increased?

Air is like soup, it has lots of different ingredients too!

Ingredients Amount

Nitrogen 78 pieces

Oxygen 21 pieces

Argon 1 piece

Carbon di oxide tiny crumb of piece

Other Gases half of one piece

Discuss:

What would happen if we took out one of the ingredients? Would we have the same air?

Which ingredients do you think are most important to plants, animals, and people?
