LER ren issue: 03 Service Manual Swing ring Function Group 10: Swing Ring 10.10: Swing ring 1 Function The swving ring allows the uppercartiage to rotate in all directions on the undercarriage, providing a rotating connection with bearing function between the undercarriage and uppercarriage. The swing ring consists of a single-row axial roller bearing with a large diameter. The output shaft ot the swing gear engages into the involute internal teething of the swing ring sa to turn the uppercartiage. Inner ting 3. Ball raw 4 Upper seal 5 Lower seal 6 Threaded bore for lube line connection When working with the machine the high forces and alternating moments transmitted by the upper- carriage must be taken up by the swing nng. These forces are transferred by the outer ring 4, which is mounted on the uppercartiage and by the ball raw 3to the inner ring with inner toothing 2, which is mounted to the undercarriage. The two seals 4 and § prevent dirt and dust from entering the ball bearing The lubrication of the ball bearing races is performed via central lubrication lines attached to the outer ring of the swing ring, The teeth ofthe inner ring and swing gear output pinion are lubricated via a grease reserve contained in the housing around the swing gear pinion, see also section 8 La lubrification des chemins de roulement et la denture d'entrainement de la couranne doit tre en- vveprises a intervalles réguliers, voir les indications du le plan d'entretien, groupe 3 et le "Manuel de conduite et c'entretien” S The replacement of the grease for swing ring ball races and for grease packing of swing gear pinion 8 must be performed at regular intervalls via the central lubrication systems, see «maintenance chart» 5 in section 3 and the operation and maintenance manual 906 Classic / R 916 Classic | R 226 Classic 10.10.3 copyright oy Swing ring Service Manual Measuring of clearances in the swing ring 4 44 42 Measuring of clearances in the swing ring Fig.3 Measurement of axial play and backlash (using a sheet of lead) Axial (or tilting) play measurement Notes! The maximum axial play max at delivery represent the maximum pertrissible play in a new in- stalled swing ring (see the above chart «Technical Data»), The axial play maximumis the maximum permissible play in the uppercarriage bearing (wear limit) — Swing rings can normally be operated until the maximum titing play is reached However The swing ring must be regularly inspected and checked for smooth operation and binding, = Once the swing ring has reached its wear limit ithas to be replaced; exceeding of the maximum play impairs the operational reliability and safety of the machine. — Swing rings wich bind or ate hard to turn should be changed no matter how much or how little play they have CO The titing play is measured using a dial gauge and a magnetic-base holder. In order to prevent faulty measurements, ensure that the magnetic-base holder is properly secured in its position Move the uppercarriage into @ suitable position, Mount the dial gauge to the swing ring in a posi- tion that is in ine with the attachment (to the front or to the rear) > Fillthe bucket of the machine, lift above ground level and extendit as far as possible away from the machine > Set dial gauge to zero. > Lower the attachment to the ground and support the machine with the attachment and slightly itt ite. until the sprockets or the guide wheels are slightly elevated from the ground),) The difference between the two measured values corresponds to the tiling play of the swing ring D> In order to detect any differences in play along the ring, repeat the above measurement at various swivel angles of the uppercarriage. Measuring of tooth backlash Note! The tooth backlash, is the play occurring for various reasons when anew bearing is combined with a new pinion The tooth backlash can be measured using a lead sheet of approx. 10 mm in width, 120 mm in length and 2 mm in thickness 10.10.4 R90 asic /R S16 Classic /R 926 Classic conyright by aoe. seve: 03 LER en aoe. seve: 03 LER en Service Manual Swing ring Removal of the swing ring > Park the machine on a level ground and release the swing gear brake. > Fully extend the attachment and lift t by approx. 1 meter from the ground > Insert the lead strip horizontally between the swing gear pinion and the swing ring so that itis placed on the centre of a tooth and swivel the uppercarriage slightly by manually moving the end of the attachment D> Take the sheet of lead away from the swing ring and measure its thickness in the middle of two consecutive tooth faces A and B of a same tooth Determine the tooth backlash as described in the example below Thickness on tooth face A 0.90 mm Thickness on tooth faceB + 0.30 mm tooth backlash 720mm > Compare the above determined backlash value with the one indicated in the chart above. 5 Removal of the swing ring The replacement of the swing ring is possible only after lifting off the uppercarriage. © The crane, lifting tackle, ropes, shackles ete. used for lifting off the upper carriage must be suitable ‘or the weight of the uppercariage (see the above chart Technical Data) 1D Ensure that the tackle is long enough to be properly attached to the machine. Danger! For the work described below, always comply with all applicable safety instructions! [tis not permitted or necessary for any person to be under the jacked up uppercarriage when the following procedure is followed ! For safety reasons LIEBHERR recommends the use of the specially worked out loading tools for liting the complete basic machine, with removed working attachment and counterweight. see also the operator and maintenance manual, Depending on machine type and on installed working attachment it may be necessary to remove the working attachment and/or the counterweight. > Place the uppercarriage on a level and firm surface and remove the supports, if necessary. Secure the undercarriage against rolling by blocking the chains. > As necessary, remove the complete working attachment from the basic machine or set it into the position prescribed for the lifting, > Mark, disconnect and seal the lines atthe top of the oil rotary connection > Collect any escaping oil, using suitable oil pans > Remove the driver of the oil rotary connections, > Ifnecessary. disconnect the lubrication lines to the ball bearing races of the swing ring Caution! A Swing rings may only by transported and stored in horizontal position, Avoid impacts and stress when installing the ring.
