Many, a lot of
We use many to talk about quantity of countable words.

We have many friends at school.

She had many activities at school today.

A lot of substitute many.

We have a lot of friends at school

She had a lot of activities at school today.


Much, a lot of
We use much to talk about quantity of uncountable things. Much is usually used
in negative sentences. A lot of is used in affirmative, negative and questions.

I don’t have much time. ( I don’t have a lot of time). negative

Do you have a lot of time? (question)


Countable or uncountable words
Decide if the words are countable or uncountable.

too much; too many
Too much expresses unnecessary quantity for uncountable words.

Too many expresses unnecessary quantity for countable words.

There were too many people at the party. ( negative idea)

There are too much pollution in São Paulo. (negative idea)


Few; little
Few is used before countable words= I did few things yesterday.

Little, before uncountable. There is little time to do everything.

Decide between few or little.

time, money, friends, book, patience, hours, chocolate
