WHAT IS A .RIS FILE?

Files with the .ris extension are integrated with technology

developed and improved by RIS (Research Information
Systems ). These files are mainly used for quickly and easily
implementing citation features and bibliographies into text
documents using a wide variety of applications developed
with support for the functionalities made available in these
RIS files. A standard RIS file is comprised of a set of codes
which consist of no more than two characters and are
formatted with tabs. The data in these RIS files also consist of
their corresponding text values as saved by the user who
created the RIS file. The content of these RIS files usually
include the title of the written material inquestion, along with
the date of publication, author, name of publisher, start and
end page as well as the issue number of the material among
other relevant details which may be added by the user. The
development of these RIS files were primarily for the
standardization of citation detail exchanges and collaboration
work done for published materials. Most users of the RIS file
format integrate the features embedded into these RIS files
for populating digital libraries with the content that it provides.
ASCII is the default text format specification implemented into
many text documents, and this is also used in RIS files.

HOW TO OPEN A .RIS FILE?

Launch a .ris file, or any other file on your PC, by double-
clicking it. If your file associations are set up correctly, the
application that's meant to open your .ris file will open it. It's
possible you may need to download or purchase the correct
application. It's also possible that you have the correct
application on your PC, but .ris files aren't yet associated with
it. In this case, when you try to open a .ris file, you can tell
Windows which application is the correct one for that file.
From then on, opening a  .ris file will open the correct
application.
