Cleaning and disinfection practices

to resume work in areas of confirmed or suspected cases
Once a COVID-19 case is confirmed or suspected (person is symptomatic) within your team, the work areas
associated to the individual and his close contacts must be isolated and secured. Consider both site and office
personnel.

Ensure all personnel is communicated and instructed to stay away from the area or areas of concern. The use of
signs and physical barrier is recommended.

In order to resume activities in such areas the following practices shall be im-
plemented:

1. Prepare a plan to clean and disinfect the area or areas of concern. List the
areas and describe spaces, material, tools and other elements on each
location that will need cleaning and disinfection. Consider that different
materials may need different techniques, be specific.
2. Instruct cleaning personnel about the adequate use of the cleaning and
disinfection products and tools. Please refer to Royal Commission COVID-
19 Recommended Cleaning and Disinfection Practices . Cleaning and dis-
infecting products used shall meet CDC, EPA or internationally recognized
standard, as applicable.
3. Personnel conducting this process must be fully equipped with suitable
PPE. This shall include but not be limited to: coverall, respiratory protec-
tion, face shield, gloves and boots, all suitable for the type of disinfectant/
cleaning products used.
4. Surfaces should be cleaned using a detergent or soap and water prior to
disinfection. For disinfection, diluted household bleach solutions, alcohol
solutions with at least 70% alcohol, and most common EPA or equivalent
registered household disinfectants should be effective.
5. Ensure to clean and disinfect office workstations, all hand tools, ladders, stepladders, platforms, toolboxes,
materials, chairs, tables, scaffolds, doors, handles, light switches, welfare areas, toilets, vehicles and equip-
ment as applicable. Follow manufacturer instruction while cleaning and sanitizing tools to avoid damage or
malfunction.
6. Use disposable cloths, mop head and other tools to clean and disinfect COVID-19 areas of confirmed or sus-
pected cases.
7. Ensure proper ventilation during the cleaning and disinfection process.
8. Cleaning staff should immediately report breaches in PPE (e.g., tear in gloves) or any potential exposures to
their supervisor.
