How to prevent a cyber-attack

Phishing

If any email takes us to a page where you’re required to log in (unless you’ve specifically
asked for a password change), we should be suspicious.

The header of the email will give us a good understanding of whether the sender is legitimate
or not. Failing that, think about getting directly in contact with the company in question. Talk
to a chat support operative or even call them directly.

Malware

Having a strong antivirus system is a good way to stop a malware before it has the chance to
take hold. A lot of modern computers will come with these already built-in, but it’s still worth
making sure.

Also we should never download anything from a site we’re unfamiliar with. Likewise, we
shouldn’t install software of which we aren’t completely sure about.

Keyloggers

It sounds like a simple fix, but having a strong password is the best way to make a
keylogger’s job more difficult. We shouldn’t pick or choose any word or number which is
very close to us. Key chain tools can also help us generate passwords efficiently.

We should never ever enter personal details on any page we aren’t sure about. This is the
easiest way for any cyber criminal not to gain access to our personal information.

Public Wi-Fi

We should avoid public Wi-Fi when playing games, if we do, we should make sure to use a
secure VPN (virtual private network). These can provide an additional layer of encryption,
while also hiding our true location.
