STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC INDICATORS OF
THE MERCOSUR COUNTRIES

ECONOMIC INDICATOR ANALYSIS GDP PER CAPITA

For this analysis, data from the 2018
World Bank are taken, except for
Venezuela's 2014 data. The value of
GDP per capita is measured in dollars.
The average per capita GDP of Latin
America is with Uruguay at the top
with US $ 17,278 (Year 2018) thanks
to the government's management in the
last 15 years with respect for private
property, its low rate of corruption and
poverty, its high level of equality
regarding education, health and basic
public services. On the other hand,
Venezuela in the queue, according to a
LatinFocus survey with US $ 2,899 of

has unleashed hyperinfection and depreciation of the currency to
the point that there are no bolivars enough for expenses.
newspapers this has sunk the country in the regional ranking and, according to IMF data and
rankings, it is one of the poorest in Latin America
Colombia would be in the middle of the table with US $ 6,667 According to the IMF, the lack of
investment, the slow increase in productivity and the low quality of infrastructure and education
are some of the reasons that make Colombia's GDP per capita and other countries are growing at
a slow pace. Another factor that influences the GDP per capita of these countries is economic
policies “Economic policies that find a balance between reconstructing the margin for maneuver
and maintaining economic stability, on the one hand, and supporting growth on the other and
controls the social protection network,” Werner said in a blog in which he analyzes the prospects
for regional growth.
UNEMPLOYMENT RATE
We start with Venezuela whose data according to the World Bank is from 2013 and is currently
suspended from Mercosur, which for that year the unemployment rate was 6.6%, a figure that is
quite outdated since due to the great humanitarian crisis that Venezuela is experiencing Right
now, it has the highest unemployment rate in the world which is 50.5% according to the IMF.
Continuing with the other countries where Guyana has the highest unemployment rate which is
14% due to its high corruption rates in which oil was found and according to the IMF in 2020 it
could increase its economic wealth by 86%
but its inhabitants are not optimistic since
they speak of the "Curse of oil" which is the
discovery of this so that later the rulers
waste their wealth only favoring some and
after obtaining this wealth they are worse
than they were before like Venezuela.
The lowest unemployment rate is in Bolivia
with 3.5%, Ecuador with 3.8%, which, although low, does not refer to the quality of
employment, since many people have jobs, but live from informality, with low salary and little
social protection such as Colombia with 9.1% Brazil 11.9% and Argentina 9.2% highest
unemployment in Latin America. Their solution according to the ILO is

to increase active labor market policies so that there is more protection
for the unemployed.
