SHOW YOUR COMPLETE SOLUTION AND BOX YOUR FINAL ANSWER.

1. A random sample of 200 batteries is selected from a large batch produced by a production line.
If there are 25 defective batteries in the sample, estimate the proportion of defective batteries
in the whole batch.
2. The heights (in cm) of a random sample of 15 workers in a workshop are as follows:

152 153 150 148 156

158 162 178 154 163

156 155 165 177 173

Estimate the mean and variance of the heights of the workers in the workshop.

3. A study of 50 English teachers showed they spend an average of 18.4 minutes correcting
astudent’s composition. Find a 90% confidence interval of the mean time when the standard
deviation is 2.5 minutes.

4. Find the sample size necessary to estimate a population mean within 0.5 of error with 99%
confidence interval and a standard deviation of 5.3.

5. The weights of the bags of ABC potato chips are normally distributed with standard deviation
15g. A sample of 8 bags of ABC potato chips are taken and their weighs (in grams) are measured
as follows:

120 122 118 119 125 127 118

Using the above data, construct a 95% confidence interval for the mean weight of the bag of
ABC potato chips.
