Duration: 30 minutes  Date: 27-4-2016
Materials Required: sheets of paper, cardboard charts, colored papers divided into equal
parts, flags, chocolate.

Objectives:

At the end of the lesson students should be able to:


Read and write fractions

Introduction:

A- Brainstorming: (2min)
Are there numbers between 0 and 1?

B- Activities:

1- Survey students about their favorite sports such as swimming, basketball and
football. Suppose the number of students is 14. Ask: how many students
prefer to play football? (3 of 14 for example).
Repeat the same question for the others sports. (6min)

2- Ask students to fold a sheet of paper into 2 equal parts, and then cut along
the fold to create 2 parts of a whole. Ask groups to find different folds to
make halves. Ask students how they could determine if the parts are equal?
(Place one part on top of the other)
Repeat the same activity by folding the paper into 4 equal parts. Note that each
part is called a quarter. (5min)

3- Here are some ways to divide a whole into equal parts: (4min)

4- The Olympic Games start with march of all the athletes. An athlete from each
country carries the country’s flag. Let volunteers carry different flags and
allow other students to tell which flags are divided into equal parts. (4min)
