Measuring Lengths

Materials Required: Board- book- unit ladder

Objectives:
At the end of this session pupils will be able to:
 Measure lengths with different units
 Do all conversions among units of lengths

Linkages:
 Multiplying and dividing decimals with base 10
 Base units of lengths (cm, mm, m)

Introduction: 5mins
Today we will learn different kinds of units in measuring lengths and how to
convert them.

Application:

1. Review the cm, mm, m units and solve a small exercise on them. (5mins)
2. Post on board pictures in order to introduce the other units’ km, dam, hm,
dm and asking students ” What we should use in measuring the lengths?”
(10mins)
3. Let the students (pair work) arrange the units in order km to mm. (5mins)
4. Solve exercise 2 and 3 in the book on the board. (15mins)
5. Explain exercise 4 in order to give it as homework. (5mins)
Assessment:
Homework: solve exercise 4 on the math copybook.

Closure:
Ask pupils to sum up what they took today. (5mins)
