Explain ISO 9001:2000 standard.

ISO 9001:2000 is a company level certification and ISO 9001:2015 is its newer version.
Once a company is certified, a re-certification Audit is conducted every 3 years in which the entire
organization is reviewed during the audit.

the Title of ISO 9001:2000 is "Quality Management Systems-Requirements"

It provides a framework for operating and maintaining a Quality Management System(QMS).

This certification is based on a standard that is developed and published by ISO.

ISO stands for “International Organization for Standardization”.

ISO is an independent, international, non-governmental organization(NGO) with a membership of 164
national-standards bodies.

ISO has many diverse range of standards. ISO standards are designed to make companies,
governments and other organizations more efficient. Some standards are designed for specific industries,
like the food industry, or designed to help improve the global environment and also
cooperation/compatibility between products.

There one of the most popular category of standards is the Quality Management which lies under
the ISO 9000 family code series. This category is for organizations that seek to improve the quality of
their products and services and consistently meet their customers’ expectations.

ISO 9001 is the only standard in the family of ISO9000 that can be certified and it can be used by any
organization, large or small, regardless of its field of activity. It is based on a number of quality
management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top
management, the process approach and continual improvement.

It specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization:

 needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer
and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and

 aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including
processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and
applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

 all the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 are generic and are intended to be applicable to any
organization, regardless of its type or size, or the products and services it provides.

In the early years of ISO 9000 implementation, document control was mainly done with hard copies of
documents. Now implementation has become far more easier because of Sophisticated Quality
Management Software Systems. ISO rules are built into QMS software, which may or may not be a
web-based platform. The system provides the tools for quality and compliance management, to simplify
complex quality environment of an enterprise and keep pace with proliferation.

Special case: Agile Software Development

To reconcile agile development's focus on speed and lean development with ISO 9001's need for
documentation, traceability and control, there is no apparent need to change ISO 9001 or either the Agile
concept. Be flexible when using terms such as planning and evidence of conformance and set a limit to how
many documents are require from an agile process without destroying the very concept of agility.
