¿Pero quién es en realidad Elon Musk y cómo comenzó su ascendente carrera futurista y su
fortuna?

Elon Reeve Musk

Musk was born and raised in South Africa by his father, a South African engineer and his
mother, a Canadian nutritionist and model, separated when he was 8 years old.

Musk bought his first computer, a Commodore VIC-20, when he was 10 years old and learned
to program on his own. He sold his first program, a space game called Blastar, for the
equivalent of $ 500 (five hundred) when he was just 12 years old. The money he earned by
programming was spent on comics, computers and role-playing games such as Dungeons and
Dragons.

Between the ages of 12 and 15(fifteen) , he had an existential crisis about the meaning of life.
He read some books by Nietzsche and Schopenhauer and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

After graduating from Pretoria Men's High School, he left home when he was 17 (seventeen)
years old, without the support of his parents and partly due to mandatory military service in the
South African Army:

I have nothing against serving in the Army itself, but serving in the South African Army to
suppress black people did not seem like a good way to spend my time.

I wanted to go live in the United States.

That's where great things are possible.

Musk emigrated to Canada with his mother in June 1989.(one thousand nine hundred eighty-
nine)
In 1992(one thousand nine hundred ninety-two) he obtained a scholarship to study Business
Administration and Physics at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his Wharton School
degree at the University of Pennsylvania and stayed one more year at the university to complete
his second degree in Physics.

Elon Musk's Careers

At age 9 he began to program himself, a Commodore VIC-20 that had 8 kilobytes of RAM.

In South Africa, Elon Musk did his first business at age 12 when he sold, for $ 500(five
hundred), the source code for a Space Invaders-style video game he had created.

In 1995 (nineteen ninety five) he intended to work for Netscape and went to his offices, but did
not dare to speak with anyone because of shyness.

Zip2

In 1995 (nineteen ninety five) , Musk enrolled in the PhD program in Applied Physics and
Materials Science at Stanford University, but after two days he dropped out of classes to be
able to found Zip2, along with his brother Kimbal Musk and his friend Greg Curry. Elon Musk
was the executive director of Zip2.

PayPal

In March 1999(one thousand nine hundred ninety-nine) , Musk co-founded PayPal, a financial
services and payments company via email. It achieved a high level of security without it being
complicated for the user to make the transfer.

Spacex
In 2002(two thousand two) , Elon Musk began investigating the feasibility of sending a rocket to
Mars. Each Delta-2 rocket cost between 50 (fifty) and 60(sixty) million dollars per mission and
at least 2 missions were needed. He made three trips to Russia and tried unsuccessfully to buy
ICBM intercontinental rockets without nuclear warheads.

He thought that the great advance would be that reusable rockets could be built in which the
cost of fuel was between 0.2 and 0.5% of the cost of the rocket.

Tesla Motors

In 2003(two thousand three) JB Straubel and Elon Musk visited the company AC Propulsion,
which had a prototype electric sports car based on a kit of a gasoline car to which an electric
motor and lithium-ion batteries had been adapted. The prototype accelerated from 0 to 100
km/h (One hundred kilometers per hour) in less than 4 seconds and had a range of 300 (Three
hundred kilometers per hour)

Solarity

SolarCity was the largest provider of solar energy systems in the United States. Its objective is
to extend solar energy and make it as affordable as possible.

The underlying motivation for the foundation of SolarCity and Tesla Motors is to combat global
warming.

Molecular Halcyon

Another company in which Musk has invested is Halcyon Molecular, a biotechnology company
founded in 2008(Two thousand eight) by brothers William and Michael Andregg

Powerwall and PowerPack

On April 30 (thirty) ,2015(Two thousand fifteen) Tesla presented two energy storage systems:
Powerwall and Powerpack.
Neuralink

Neuralink is a nanobiotechnology company founded by Musk that aims to integrate the human
brain with artificial intelligence. The company was founded in 2016.(Two thousand sixteen)

OpenAI

OpenAI is a non-profit artificial intelligence (AI) research company that aims to promote and
develop friendly artificial intelligence, so that it benefits humanity as a whole.
