Tips for the Extensive Reading Test
Study the following criteria that will be applied to grade your answers:

Content is clear, relevant, and accurate. It is evident that the student has read

the book and completed the tasks from the reading guide(s).

Examples Appropriate, accurate, help to illustrate the student’s points.

Claims are supported by strong arguments, there are appropriate links between
Discourse ideas. A different cohesive device is used at the beginning of almost every
sentence. There is no repetition of ideas.

Words and expressions are pertinent, accurate and varied within the limits of
what has been learned in class and beyond (self-study, the book, related news,
articles, ted talks etc.). There are synonyms, idioms, collocations, phrasal

verbs. Nouns are modified by adjectives. There are no repetitions, no simplistic
words (e.g. “interesting”, “good”, “bad”), no wordiness. Be careful with
spelling.

Structures are accurate and varied. There are no elementary mistakes (e.g.
agreement). The following structures will make your language more
sophisticated:
- Conditionals and wishes;
- Passive voice and causative;
Grammar
- Complex tenses (e.g. present perfect continuous, future perfect simple);
- Modal verbs (especially for past and future deduction);
- Verb patterns;
- Reported speech;
- Relative clauses.
