ED Sounds Past simple Card Activity
Topic: Past simple & 3 Different ED ending Sounds
Materials:
● 3 ed ending sound title cards to put at the top of each column
● 2 sets of the past simple cards
● Sticky tack
● Chalkboard
● chalk
Lesson Plan Breakdown:
Part 1; Ed ending sound
● Give each student in the classroom one card
○ tell them to look at & read their card and practice saying it
○ Tell them to try to figure out which ed sound it was
● Stick the 3 ed ending sound cards to the top of the board and draw lines in
between each in chalk
● Tell the students that they will each have a turn to come up to the board, read
their word to the class and stick it in the proper category based on its ed
ending sound
● Call one student at a time to the board until all the cards are on the board
○ Help students figure out which ending sound it is at the board if needed
Part 2: Practice Making Past Simple Sentences
● Give each student another card from the duplicate deck of cards
○ Leave the ones stuck to the board up there for students to reference
● Tell the students to look at their card and find it on the board to figure out
how to say the word with the proper ed ending sound
● Then tell them that each student will create their own sentence using their
word in the past simple and they will say it when it is their turn.
○ It is easiest to go around the room in order and have students say their
sentences
○ If students are more advanced - have them make one coherent story
and each create one sentence of the story that builds off of the prior
one
