Summarizing “Product distribution: the basics”

"Product distribution: the basics", taken from Smarta Startuploans, explains

the logistic modes of transport.

The article aims to explain the aspects to take into account to identify the mode of
transport, suitable for distributing our products, exporting and importing, the
advantages and disadvantages of using this mode of transport for an excellent
distribution and thus position them, without breakdowns or delays in the distribution
of these products / goods this means establishing "a balance between time and
budget constraints. If you make a mistake in the balance, you will be faced with a
set of satisfied customers.
When choosing a mode of transport, it must be taken into account:
 Budget, speed and reliability so that customers are not disappointed.
 If the products are dangerous, there are certain requirements to be met, for
this you must contact the DOT's Dangerous Goods Branch
 If the products are expensive; using insurance, or it is valuable cargo, it may
be necessary to use a tracking vehicle so that you know exactly where it is or
in case the cargo is damaged in transit, it is usually the responsibility of the
supplier who ensures that the packaging and labelling are adequate to reduce
the risk.
Types of Modes of Transport: To choose depends on the size and urgency of the
load.
Road
Road transport is cheap, convenient and one of the most flexible modes of
transport, but it is not as environmentally friendly as other methods. If you are
planning to transport your goods by road, you need to be aware of height, weight
and length restrictions and if you are transporting your goods you need to
familiarise yourself with the CMR note, which applies to every international road
transport contract.
Railway
Rail transport is fast, environmentally friendly and not (always) subject to
congestion or delay. However, it is inflexible and can be very expensive.
-The easiest way to ship your products by rail is to purchase a package
rail transport through a freight operating company (FOC), a terminal operator or
a third party logistics company.
Air
-Air transport is undoubtedly the fastest way to transport your products over
long distances - but it is expensive and not very environmentally friendly, as
with excess baggage on passenger airlines, air freight is usually charged by the
kilogram, check that the shipping company has experience check on the British
carriers association website
Tue
-Compared to air transport, shipping your products by sea is relatively cheap,
especially if large volumes are shipped. It is slow, however, and quite inflexible
- there are relatively few ports and you will probably have to make
arrangements to move your products inland.
Sea-going cargo ships consist of the following:
-Container ships - carry 20' or 40' containers that can be rented
-Cargo ships - carry loose cargo
-Bulk carriers - transport unpackaged goods, usually grain, coal, etc.
-Tanks : transporting liquids
Ro-Ro vessels (ro-ros) - carry cargo and passengers
Vehicles There are two types of delivery:
-Line vessels operate on fixed routes with fixed timetables
-Wandering ships operate entirely according to the demand of the person
who charters them
Email
-The couriers are fast, reliable and very safe, but they can be expensive,
due to the nature of the couriers' vehicles, they usually only deliver the goods at
a certain weight.
