III. PROCEDURES
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance
B. Review
A. Motivation
The older style of water meters are those with small dials. It looks like a series of small
clocks that turn clockwise (see picture below). The unit we use for his measurement is
cubic meters (m3). The rules of reading a water meter with dials are similar to the way
an electric meter is being read.
(Discuss how to read water meter on page 305)
Discuss Example #4: Read and interpret the dials on the meter below. The rightmost
dial has the highest value.
To get the exact meter reading, start from right to left or the highest numbered dial
(clockwise)
E. Application
Group Activity:
Give the readings on these water meters.
1. 0 0 0 0 0 7 9 ______________
2. 0 0 0 2 6 5 2 ______________
Answer:
1. 0 0 0 0 0 7 9 0.079 m³ or 79 Liters
2. 0 0 0 2 6 5 2 2.652 m³ or 2 652 Liters
To compute the water consumption for a particular period of time, simply subtract the
previous reading from the present reading.
Example:
The Paz family consumed 0.972 m³ of water last month and 10.965 m³ this month. How
many cubic meters of water did they consume?
Present Reading: 10.865 m³
Previous Reading: 0.972 m³
Water Consumed: 9.893 m³
