The operation of twin screw pump


Twin screw pump is a kind of
rotary, positive-displacement
pump. Its main working parts are
stator like “8” (insert or pump) and
two meshed rotors (driving screw
and driven screw). Two rotors and
stator are meshed each other and formed a series of closed cavity with equal volume. The
synchronous gear transport torque from driving screw to driven screw. The medium in the
closed cavity can axially flow smoothly and continuously with the running of screws. The
medium can be transported from low pressure cavity to high pressure cavity.
The main feature of twin screw pump
● Between the two screws, the screw and insert (casing), there have a certain clearance.

The two screws are located accurately by bearing and synchronous gear.
The bearing locates the screw along axial and radial; the synchronous gear
locates the mesh clearance between driving screw and driven screw.
●Low pulsation of capacity and pressure, running smoothly, low noise.

● The high suction performance----The pumps possess high self priming ability.
● The pump can deliver many kinds of medium. The high efficiency area is
wide.
● The pump can deliver the liquid mixed with gas or air.

1. transportation

Attention the relevant lifting and transporting tools and the safety rules.
Wood package or special package according to customer’s specific requirements should
be accepted through the transportation. Resist seawater and sea air defending and
packing method must be used for sea transportation. The general packing protection time
is 30 days (including the transportation time) at normal conditions. The time will below 30
days under the bad condition.

1.1. lifting through transportation


Hook the marked station in the package if need lift through transportation.

1.2. lifting after arrival

Check the pump or units according to the packing list immediately after arrival.

Notice the manufacturer or supplier the damage immediately.

◆The pump or units should be delivered by eligible personnel to avoid violent strike.

◆Attention the direction of pump or units and the mark of package during

transportation.

◆The inlet and outlet should be blocked during transportation and storage.

◆The packing stuff should be disposed according to the local rules.

◆The lifting equipment (such as fork-lift, crane, pulley etc.) should be operated by

eligible person and be guaranteed of intensity. The weight of pump of units is in the

data sheet.

◆The lift station must fast; it should be such as casing, flange or base plate.

The following drawings are the correct using method when lifting:

Lift pump Lift unit

Forbid to lift at bearing house. Avoid the distortion when lifting. The pipeline
and accessory should not be damaged.
Please select different method to lift and transport according to the size of pump unit. If
the gross weight is equal to or less than 5 ton, you can transport and lift the entire unit;
the suspension ring is on the base plate of unit. If the gross weight is greater than 5 ton
or the form size exceeds the state standard, you should transport and lift divided. You
can lift discharge flange for small size pump; for great size pump, you should lift the
suspension rings on both side of casing.

Forbid to lift at the shaft end, fore bearing house, back bearing house or
motor.
Forbid to stand under lift hook when lifting.
Prevent the pump or unit overturning and surging until they are assembled.

2. Claims for compensation


Please inspect the goods according to the packing list after arrival. If the goods are
damaged of lost, inform the transport department immediately; put the question in
writing and notice our company or supplier in 10 days.

The user should take charge of the damage or loss of the overdue goods.
3. storage and protection

Customer should adopt the following protection methods:


Brush grease without acid and resin to all exposed shaft parts and without painting parts.
Pump unit and accessories should be stored in a closed and dry place. Run pump by
hand once a week at least if keep long time storage, then can easily find whether the
internal parts of pump have rub with the screw spindle or not.

If the environments for pump storage and installation are moist or dusty
then:
◆Brush antirust on the internal surface without painting to avoid the atmospheric

erosion.
◆Cover the pump unit with plastic or canvas.

If the pump is used to deliver food or similar produce, the protection method
must be accordance with the food. The pump and accessories should be stored
in a closed, dry place.

1. Requirements for using spot

1.1 General Requirements

No fire during operation in


case of fire disaster.

All the equipments which are


related with electricity should
be explosion-proof whether
the pump is installed outdoor
or indoor.

Have good aeration if installed


indoor.

Spot staffs should avoid touching pump, outlet pipelines, gear box, front cover and
motor bearing directly. If necessary, adopt relevant safeguard to avoid the scald
caused by direct touch.

1.2 Foundations

Foundations of pump unit should have nice ability of absorption of shocks and enough
rigidity, and should be installed in the foundations of reinforced concrete. The supporting
weight should be 3 times of the gross weight. Bolt hole which are marked on the drawing
should be empty through irrigating in order to install foot bolts later. There is no need to
polish the surface in order to irrigate a layer of slurry to support the unit. The mix is one
piece of cement and two pieces of clean sands, then stir with water. After solidification, put
the units on the base plate and install bolts. Irrigating the bolt hole and the spacing between
foundations and base plate through leveling block. Seeing the right figure.

An enough space should be prepared for maintenance easily on the spot. The
installation environment should have nice lighting and keep dry. If the unit is
installed in a low-lying place, the drain method should be adopted.

◆Put the unit after leveling on the position of bolts. Or first fasten the nuts onto bolts
then put the base plate.
◆Fasten the base plate with nuts after leveling.

◆The height between foundation and base plate are approx. 30 mm

◆The opening position between foundation and base plate should be circled by

lathing in case of loss of slurry, and then irrigating the slurry through the opening
position. Through irrigating, stir ceaselessly to avoid producing air bubbles to lead
asymmetry. Remove the lathing after solidification (usually in 48 hours).
◆There is no need to pour slurry if have enough bolts to support base plate.

1.4 requirement for heating, cooling, cleaning pipeline

Please indicate in the order if the pump has requirement for heating, cooling and
seal cleaning.
The heating temperature of pump is less than the working temperature plus 50℃
in normal, the pressure is ≤1.0MPa. The range of pressure for cooling cavity is
0.05~0.15 MPa for the pump with cooling measure for seal bearing. If not in this
range, please refer to our technology department.

2. Installation

2.1 Installation of Pipelines

Attention the following question:


1) The free space before gear box for installing outlet, inlet pipeline and other
accessories must be at least 1.3 times of the length of pump( not contain the motor).
2) The nominal diameter of pipeline should not be less than the caliber of suction or
discharge to insure the NPSH.
3) Overload can lead distortion; when the distortion is serious the pump can’t run
correctly and even damage. To improve this status, the absolute support should be
installed near the suction and discharge; inflation knot should be installed in the inlet
and outlet pipeline.
4) The pump will be abraded and blocked if dregs, iron rust, sand grains or other
sundries enter the pump; so the pipeline should be cleaned before the pump starting to
work. The pump and accessories should be avoided to bear the pressure when the
pipeline carry out pressure test or clean.
5) Stop valves should be placed in the pipeline of suction, discharge, heating or cooling.
Pressure meter should be installed near the pump or pipeline. Safety valve should be
installed in the pipeline to protect pump and pipeline.
6) The filter should be placed near the suction of pump to insure the safety running.
There should leave enough space in order to clean and maintain filter easily. The filter
area is the area of suction times 20 above.
The max flow resistance is 10KPa; the mesh is 1mm.

The pump can operate normally even in the situation that the filter is blocked
partly.
2.2 installation for coupling and motor
The torque of motor is delivered by flexible coupling. The coupling should repair the
deviation of axial, radial and angular during the delivery automatically. First, the protecting
coat on the shaft should be wiped by relevant solvent, and then inset the key, at last

installed the coupling on the shaft through light strike with wood hammer or plastic
hammer. It is possible to insert the coupling on the shaft end by special tools through the
screw hole in the shaft.

Attention the instruction of the manufacture when using special coupling.

2.3 check the centering of coupling

Plastic coupling can’t complete its delivery function without fault under the
condition that has bigger installation error.
Not allowed to decrease the adjusting precision of plastic coupling because of
repair functions.

2.3.1 reason for adjusting


The couplings have been centered precisely before leaving factory. But the plastic coupling
would be changed during delivering, lifting, fixing and connecting; because of the distortion
of common base plate, the change of foundation. Adjusting the coupling after installation of
units again.
2.3.2 purpose for adjusting
◆Keep the normal running of units; dispel the abnormal noise and vibration.
◆Avoid the leak and abnormal abrasion of mechanical seal caused by abnormal mesh
condition.
◆Extend the working life of coupling, bearing and mechanical seal and improve the
reliability.
2.3.3 Step of adjusting

◆Coarse adjustment (drawing 1): carry out eye-measurement of coupling centering use
edge ruler around the outline. Adjust the left or right position of motor and add or
remove the adjustable pillows to center the coupling. If have angular deviation in
vertical direction (drawing 2), you can add adjustable pillow at front (bigger slot in
bottom) or at back (bigger slot on top) of motor foot separately.
◆Fine adjustment horizontal (drawing 3): fix the meter on the half coupling of motor,
press its header on the outline of half coupling of pump and mark at the press point.
Zero the needle at horizontal position, rotate the both half coupling to an other
horizontal position, keep always the header at marked point, inspect the reading of
meter, adjusting the horizontal position of motor according to the half reading (to
avoid the angular deviation, the press point should be at the center of motor foot),
carry out the step several times, until the meter reading are both zero at two
horizontal positions.
◆Fine adjustment vertical (drawing 4): the initial position of the meter is on the top of
vertical direction of pump half coupling outline. Mark at the top point, zero the needle,
rotate the both half coupling to the bottom, keep always the header at marked point,
inspect the reading of meter, add or remove adjustable pillow at four point of motor
boot according to the half reading at same time, carry out the step several times, until
the meter reading are both zero.
◆The influence will bring to each other because of the adjustment of different direction.
Check the front adjustment when finished the follow step. The deviation should be
less than certain value at each direction, and then the adjustment is finished. The fine
adjustment is only suitable for special coupling and situation, the range of adjustable
value refers to the special introduction of coupling. The coupling that our company
supplied can be adjusted by coarse adjustment at normal situation.
◆Check the centering of coupling again after connecting inlet and outlet pipeline. If the
pump flanges bear the extra pressure from pipeline, please adjust the arrangement of
pipeline and supporting status anew.
◆The coupling should be rotated by hand flexible.

◆The edge ruler, meter and adjustable pillow can be supplied with the pump units. (extra
cost)

3. Electric connecting

The electric connecting work should be carried out by professional. Abide


the rules especially the safety of electric industry. Abide the rules of
electric connecting of state electric power co. Shut off the power before
doing anything to the pump units.
◆Check the content of nameplate of motor according to the requirement of local electric
net before running. The cable of conjugate driving motor must be connected
according to the circuit diagram supplied by motor manufacturer.
◆Have protecting equipment for motor.
◆inspect the rotating direction of motor.

Fill liquid into pump before debugging the veer; the mechanical seal will be
damaged because of the dry running. Forbidden the pump dries running!
Inspect if the rotating direction is accordant with the index plate by spot moving the pump,
if no, please connect the line anew.

1. Preparations for Initial Start-up


——Check all the connections for correct implement and operation. Test leaking and
pressure and clean all pipelines, valves and filter to make sure the impurity cleaned.
——Check and make sure pump shaft revolve freely, if
have any jam and abrasion, must be settled. Pumps
have been tested before leaving factory, but there is
adverse infects during transportation.
— — Check and make sure the reaction force of the
pipeline connections of pump’s suction and outer
sides on pump are not over the permitted value.
——Check and make sure whether the connection bolts are fastness and reliable.
——Check whether the power is switched on.
——Check whether the gear casting and the oil position of front cover attain the position of
oil mark position. Above 5mm the middle level when the pump is still is the correct oil
level.
——Check whether all valves and control equipment and supervise meters are work
correctly.
——Inspect the veer.
——The pump with heater must be operated by hand when the temperature achieves the
certain temperature. Steam, hot water or hot oil can be the heat carrier. Select the
pressure of heat carrier in the range of 0.2—1.0MPa according to the material of pump.
The injecting and discharge hole of heat carrier are on the pump, refer to the unit
installation drawing or pump outline drawing.

The differential temperature between delivered medium and heat carrier should as
small as possible to avoid leading stress.

If the pump has double mechanical seal, there must have seal off liquid system. The
pressure of seal off liquid system should be above the suction pressure 0.1~
0.2MPa. Run seal off liquid system first before operating the main pump.

The pump with seal off liquid refers to the requirement of seal off liquid.

2. start-up
The sequence of starting up pump: entirely open the inlet and outlet valves; fill the
delivery medium into pump; spot move the motor to observe the veer; then starting
up the pump.

Forbidden to run the pump when the inlet and outlet valve are closed.
Shut off the pump and relative equipment if no capacity output after initial start-up,
and restart several minutes later, if still no capacity output, check the pump and
relative equipment, see “Operating Faults Causes and Remedies”.
After the checking and remedying, restart the pump according to the fore steps.

Forbid to adjust the by pass valve otherwise the valve will be disabled. The
valve has been debugged before leaving factory.

3. stop
Shut off the switch of units, shut off the valve fixing on the inlet and outlet pipeline nearest
the pump, separate the pump and pipeline.
Shut off the seal off liquid system after cooling; shut off the heater if has.
If the pump stops for a long time, please protect the pump according to “transportation,
Claims for compensation and storage”.

3.1 start-up after short time stopping


According to the collocation of equipment:
◇Turn on all the valves in the inlet and outlet pipeline.
◇Adjust the seal off liquid system, circular lubrication system and heater, and turn them
on at suitable time.
◇Turn on all the controlling equipments and accessories.
◇Start-up the pump unit.

3.2 start-up after long time stopping


The start-up method is the same with the initial start-up.

4. Emergency stop
◇Shut off the pump unit immediately.
◇Shut off all the valves.
◇Shut off the heater after stopping the pump.
◇Shut off the seal off liquid system after cooling.

1. Inspection and Maintenance

1.1 Operating check


After start-up correctly:
——Check whether there is any noise and vibration, if true, analyze reasons and settle
problems.
——Check the temperature rising at bearing of pump and motor. Temperature of bearing of
pump should not over 80℃, and bearing of motor should not over 95℃.

Attention: Avoid scald when checking temperature, better use the

device: infrared ray temperature meter.


Check and repair for double mechanical seal and the seal off liquid system: The
function of seal off liquid system:Mainly cooling and lubricating mechanical seal. Seal
off liquid system should be checked in time. The increase and reduce of seal off liquid
both mean the leaking of mechanical seal. Makeup the seal off liquid when it reduced.
The mechanical seal is damageable part. It is normal that there are several drops of
liquid leaking per hour under normal condition. The max leaking is 5cm3/h. please
change the mechanical seal if exceed the max leaking. Collect and dispose the leaking
should according to the requirement of environment protecting.
—— Inspect the oil level and temperature of gear box and fore cover.

1.2 Periodic inspection

Periodic inspection can prolong the working life of pump.


Daily:
——Check lubricating oil position of gear box, fore cover and seal off liquid.
——Check abnormal noise and vibration.
Weekly:
——Check and stat. The data such as the temperature and pressure of suction and discharge,
and also speed, current and the difference pressure between front and back filter, and
temperature of pump casing etc. If have spare pump, should operate at least 10 minutes

per week to make sure use it timely.


Quarterly:
——Exchange lubricating oil (include fore cover, gear box, seal off liquid) at least 3 months,
exchange more often when environments are bad. Including other reasons result in the
pollution of oil and foreign matter. The first running period is less than 200 hours.
—— If necessary, should stop pump and recheck the centering.

Yearly:
——Check capacity, pressure, power and temperature according to the nameplate.
——It is necessary to change lubricating oil, check the centering of pump and motor.
——Maintenance for synchronous gear would prolong the working life of pump, and running
steady. Check the abrasion, gap and nick of synchronous gear, and make sure every part
fasten correctly.

——Check spot air condition, should make sure in the good condition.
——When checking flow parameters, indicating abrasion of screw spindle and liner if flow
decrease and outer pressure are not insufficient, should repair pump and renew the
abrasive parts. (reference only, the time of repair was set by customer)
——Check one time at least 2 years, and renew abrasive parts.

Period of changing lubrication
1. Changing the oil after 250h of working time for the new pump.
2. Then changing the oil every 500-1000h.

2.3 For fore bearing


Adopt grease lubrication; fill the grease through two nozzles by using oil gun.
See the mark in the sheet.
Changing period:

Change every 800h at normal condition.

If used in the condition of high temperature or overload, please consult the


manufacturer.

Possible operating faults are listed following, and analyze the faults causes and
remedies. Please contact with manufacturer or selling-agents if faults are not included in
this list.

Zero the pressure of pump when repair the faults in case of accidents.

General note:
All disassembled parts such as gear wheels, distance
bushes, adjusting rings etc. must be labeled immediately,

Before being assembled, the seal area of the individual parts must be cleaned examined
and slightly greased.
The mechanical seals must be carefully removed so that the sliding rings the material of
which is highly sensitive to collisions are not damaged. Moreover, the side faces of these
rings are to be examined for their reusability and if necessary replaced.

Roller bearing: The big cage diameter of the roller bearing must point to the side
turned away from the shaft seat ring!
Diagonal ball bearing: The filling groove for the balls must point to the drive journal of
the pump.
The special dismantling and assembly of the shaft seals belonging to the pump is
mentioned under content NO.8 in case it is not a conventional soft packing.

When assembling new handling elements, take notice


of spare screws to be supplied in a lager outside
diameter, if not ordered differently, in order to equalize
wear in the casing (see drawing 3).
In case of teflon or double teflon jacket O-rings care
must be taken during assembly that the open butt joint
of the jacket is on the side opposite to the pumping
medium. At the same time, it must be guaranteed that

However, if assembling the O-ring is associated with difficulties which will not allow
the assembly to be carried out as described, the open butt joint can also be placed
on the side facing the pumping medium. However, this should be done only as
exception.

1.Disassembly of the screw pump

1)Drain the lubricating oil from the gearbox casing 19 after having removed the drain plug
154.
2)Remove gearbox casing 19, after the fastening nuts 94 have been unscrew.
3)Remove fastening screws 114 and spring lock washers 115 on gear wheels 54 or
55.When loosening the screws, shafts 30 and 31 can be protected from rotating, a
bronze square bar into the gearing of gear wheels 54 and 55 (see drawing 1).
4)Using a take-off device , remove gearwheels 54 and 55 together . Remove adjusting
spring 106 and bushes 38.
5)Remove nuts 83 and washer 84,force the end of the
bearing housing 22 by two disassembly screw .The
force thread bores are located in the flange of bearing
housing 22.
6)Unload screw 98,remove bearing inner cover 13.
7)Remove spring ring 59 and 60, then unload roller +0.15 -0.10
+0.10 -0.20

8)Remove splash rings 68.


9)Disassembly of mechanical seals refer to the description of content NO .8. Remove
screw 87, using 2 disassembly screws force the intermediate flange 7 with arresting
flange 246, mechanical seal 239 and middle flange 15.
10)Remove coupling half from drive shaft 30 and adjusting spring 112. Assemble bearing
housing 22 located at the rear-with intermediate flange 7 by using 2 hexagonal nuts 83
to the pump housing 1 gear wheels 54 and 55 on shafts 30 and 31 until they catch on
the bearing housing 6.

11)Open safety plates 96, loosen screws 95 and remove bearing cover 9 and 10.
12)After unscrew the tighten screw 111 ,remove the shaft 40 with O type collar 73 from the
drive shaft.
13)Unlock the arresting collar 47, lock nut 44 from shaft 30 and 31 separately.
14)Dismantling order is to be carried out as described under the point 5 to 9 with
consideration of certain position and name changes .Then unload gear 54, 55 and the
rear bearing seat 22 with intermediate flange 7.
15)Pull shafts 30 and 31 with mounted feed screws 32 and 33 to drive side out of the pump
housing 1.
16)If necessary, pull stator 2 out of the pump casing . This only out of the side with “G”
labeled of pump housing 1.(see drawing 4)

2.Assembling the screw pump with old handling parts

For an easier assembly and in order to avoid damages, we recommend the use
of conical assembly bushes ensuring a gradual passing over from the bearing
seat to the seal seat diameter.
1)Insert the initial mounted stator 2 into the pump casing. Pay attention to, the labeled end
side of stator and pump casing with “G” are located on
one level (see drawing 4).
2)Insert shafts 30,31,with feed screws 32,33,meshed into
the figure 8 shaped housing. Ensure drive shaft 30 is
closest to suction.
3 ) The installation of mechanical seal refers to the
description of content NO .8 Insert the intermediate Drawing 4

flange 7 of the drive side with flat gaskets 200 and assembled centering, and lock it by
blot 87.
4)Insert conical assembly bush, in the vertical pump, push splash rings 68 over the conical
assembly bushes on the shaft 30,31.
5)Push the shaft seal 56 into bearing cover 11 and 12, and tighten bearing cover 11 and 12
on the former bearing seats 4 by bolt 98. The spring of the shaft seal 56 must point to

pump’s center. Note: Pay attention to the position of bearing seat 4, bearing cover
9,10,11,12.
6)Push the former bearing seat 4 through shaft 30 and 31 till intermediate flange 7,lock it
by cushion 84 and nut 83, and unload the conical assembly bush.
7)Insert distance ring 41 and two distance ring 48,draw forth shafts 30,31 by means of a
flat iron bar over the bearing bore of the driven shaft and bearing cover 9. so that the
stop for the internal bearing housing 4.(see drawing 5)
8)Press roller bearing 67, lubrication ring 78, distance ring 63 and four points bearing 50
into shaft 30 until the collar, and then lock it by
abutment cushion 47 and lock nut 44.
9)Insert the O type collar 73 into shaft bush 40, push it
to drive shaft 30 until shaft collar and it by tighten bolt

10)Unload flat iron bar and bearing cover 9.
11)Load O type collar 72 and shaft seal 58 on the
bearing cover 9 and 10,the spring of shaft seal 58

13)Press roller bearing 69,lubrication ring 78,distance ring 63 and four points bearing 51
and tighten cushion 47 and lock nut , then fix it by bearing cover 10.
14)Provide both roller bearings 67,50 and 69,51 over the grease nipple 166 regularly with
grease by turning shafts 30,31(see lubricating plan)

intermediate flange 7 of the drive side with flat gaskets 200and assembled centering
flange 15 into the pump casing centering, and lock it by bolt 87.
16)Insert conical assembly bush, in the vertical pump, push splash rings 68 over the
conical assembly bushes on the shaft 30,31.
17)Push the rear bearing 57 into bearing cover 13, and tighten it to the rear bearing seats
22 by bolt 98. The spring of shaft seal 57 must point to pump’s center.

18)Push the rear bearing seat 22 through shaft 30 and 31 till intermediate flange 7,lock it
by cushion 84 and nut 83, and unload the conical assembly bush.
19)Press distance ring 48,roller bearing 52,53,and fix it on the rear bearing box 22 through
spring collar 59 and 60 (Pay attention to distance ring).The inside collar of bearing
must locates in front of the outside collar of 1 mm (See
drawing 6).
20)Push on bushes 38 and insert keys 106.
21)Draw up gears 54,55 and fasten with thrust washers
35,spring rings 115 and hexagon screws 114.Protect
shafts 30, 31 against torsion, same as at the
dismantling.

22)Cover sealing faces of gear casing 19 with sealing
compound, mount and fasten with nuts 94.
23)Fill in lubricant according to the lubricating instructions just to upper oil level sight glass
160. This is corresponding to the maximum oil level. Oil level just to middle oil level is
corresponding to the minimal oil level.

3. Assembling the screw pump with new handling elements

For an easier assembly and in order to avoid damages, we recommend the use

5)Push the shaft seal 56 into bearing cover 11 and 12, and tighten bearing cover 11 and 12
on the former bearing seats 4 by bolt 98. The spring of shaft seal 56 must point to
pump’s center. Note: Pay attention to the position of bearing seat 4, bearing cover
9,10,11,12.
6)Push the former bearing seat 4 through shaft 30 and 31 till intermediate flange 7,lock it
by cushion 84 and nut 83, and unload the conical assembly bush.
7)Install adjusting ring 48 on the drive shaft 30.
8)Draw forth shafts 30,31 by means of a flat iron bar over the bearing bore of the driven
shaft and bearing cover 9 so that the stop for the internal bearing ring on shaft 30 is in
one level with the external bearing ring in the bearing housing 4.(See drawing 6).
9)Press roller bearing 67, lubrication ring 78, distance ring 63 and four points bearing 50
into shaft 30 until the collar, and then lock it by abutment cushion 47 and lock nut 44.
Then push shaft 30 and 31 to bearing outside of the former bearing seat 4, remove flat
iron bar and bearing cover 9.
10)Insert the O type collar 73 into shaft bush 40, push it to drive shaft 30 until shaft collar
and lock it by tighten bolt 111.
11)Load O type collar 72 and shaft seal 58 on the bearing cover 9 and 10, the spring of
shaft seal 58 must point to coupling.
12)Using bolt 95 and cushion 96 to tighten the preset bearing cover 9.
13)Turn driving shaft 30 contrary to pump direction of rotation until flank touching. This
occurs when the driven shaft 31 turns too. This procedure has to be repeated several
times with various shaft positions. Exactly find out measure “LⅠ” and “LⅡ”. The
difference between these 2 measure gives thickness “L” of the adjusting ring 41.(See
drawing 6)
14)Insert distance ring 41, and press roller bearing 69, lubrication ring 78, distance ring 63
and four point bearing 51, then lock it by abutment cushion 47 and lock nut 44.

After installation of new shafts the flank clearance has to be checked as


follows, it should be possible to turn the driving shaft slightly to both directions

without any tuning of the driven shaft. If not so, the thickness “L” of the adjusting
ring 41 was not found out exactly and this procedure has to be repeated.
15)Provide both roller bearings 64,50 and 69,51 over the grease nipple 166 regularly with
grease by turning shafts 30,31(See lubricating plan).
16)The installation of mechanical seal refers to the description of section 8.5.
Insert the intermediate flange 7 of the drive side with flat gaskets 200 and assembled
centering flange 15 into the pump casing centering, and lock it by bolt 87.
17)Insert conical assembly bush, in the vertical pump, push splash rings 68 over the
conical assembly bushes on the shaft 30,31.
18)Push the shaft seal 57 into bearing cover 13, and tighten it to the rear bearing seats 22
by bolt 98. The spring of shaft seal 57 must point to pump’s center.
19)Push the rear bearing seat 22 through shaft 30 and 31 till intermediate flange 7, lock it
by cushion 84 and nut 83, and unload the conical assembly bush.
Note: In the vertical pump, before working must according to 8.2.18, push the splash
ring 68 and the finished O type collar 74 to shaft 30 and 31, the installation of this O
type collar must be sure to working without touching.
20)Press distance ring 48, roller bearing 52,53, and fix it on the rear bearing box of bearing
spring collar 59 and 60( Pay attention to distance ring). The inside collar of bearing
must locates in front of the outside collar of 1mm (See drawing 6).
21)Push on bushes 38 and insert keys 106.
22)Push gear wheel 55 on drive shaft 30 and fasten with
thrust washer 35, hexagon screw 114 and spring ring
115. After loosening hexagon screws 107. Turn drive
shaft 30in pump direction of rotation and check the
mesh of tooth over an angle 360°(eventually with a
feeler gauge). Tighten gear wheel 55 of the driven
shaft 31 by means of a bronze square bar as
protection against torsion between the tooth of gear
wheels with screws 107. Control mesh of tooth as

described above.

If the pump shall be suitable for both directions of rotation the gear wheels are
to be adjusted as follows. After mounting of gear wheel 54 on the shaft 30 lock
driving shaft in momentary positions and turn driven shaft up to stop (flank
touching) in both directions. After returning of driven shaft 31 to half angle’s value
screws are in contact with constant gap distribution and therefore in operating
position. While keeping this position of shafts tighten hexagon screws 107. Turn
drive shaft 30 in both directions and control mesh of tooth over an angle of 360°
(perhaps with a feeler gauge).
23)Cover sealing faces of gear casing 19 with sealing compound, mount and fasten with
nuts 94.
24)Fill in lubricant according to the lubricating instructions just to upper oil level sight glass
160. This is corresponding to the maximum oil level. Oil level just to middle oil level is
corresponding to the minimal oil level.

In order to readjust spring tension modulated to opening pressure, it is recommended


to count the rotations of spindle up to stop when turning back the valve spindle by
means of hand wheel or corresponding square key.

Dismantling:
1)Turn out inner hexagon screw 316, remove valve cover 301 with valve spindle 307 and
valve seat 305.
2)Take off spring 310 with valve core 304 from valve casing 300.
3)If designed with hand wheel 314, remove screw 321, washer 322 and take off hand
wheel 314.
4)Pull valve spindle 307 out of valve cover 301.

Assembly:
1)Insert O-ring 343 into valve cover 301, put in valve spindle 307 with thrust ball bearing
313, O-ring 342, and if available, with backing ring 344.
2)Put on hand wheel 314, if available, and fasten over washer 322 with screw 321.
3)Insert valve core 304 and spring 310 into valve casing 300, fasten valve cover 301
together with fitted valve spindle 307 and valve seat 305 to valve casing 300 by
means of inner hexagon screw 316 and gasket 331.
4)Adjust initial tension of spring 310.
5)When designed with cover 319, fasten it with gasket 323 by means of inner hexagon
screws 340 to valve cover.

General note:

All disassembled parts must be labeled immediately, in order to avoid confusions

during assembly.

Before being assembled, the seal area of the individual parts must be cleaned,

examined and slightly greased. The mechanical seals must be carefully removed so

that the sliding rings, the material of which is highly sensitive to collisions, are not

damaged. Moreover, the slide face of these rings is to be examined for their

reusability and if necessary replaced.

In case of teflon or double teflon jacketed O-rings care must be taken during

assembly that the open butt joint of the jacket is on the side opposite to the pumping

medium. At the same time, it must be guaranteed that the jacket is neither opened nor

pulled off. However, if assembling the O-ring is associated with difficulties which will

not allow the assembly to be carried out as described, the open butt joint can also be

placed on the side facing the pumping medium. However, this should be done only as

exception.

Disassembly:
1)Loosen screw 251, then remove gasket 280 and stationary seat room 239, together
with O-ring 270-9 and static ring 270-8.
2)Loosen screw 260, remove safety flange 246 from stationary seat room 239, and take
out static ring 270-8 and O-ring 270-9 by hand.
3)Loosen grub screw 270-7, remove rotating ring 270-6, O-ring 270-2, ring 270-4, spring
270-3, cap 270-1, with grub screw 270-7, from shaft 30,31.
4)Remove adjusting ring 249 from the shaft if necessary.

Assemble:
1)Push adjusting ring 249, cap 270-1, spring 270-3, ring 270-4, O-ring 270-2 and rotating
ring 270-6 up to stop at grooved nut 34 on shaft 30,31, then fasten cap 270-1 with
grub screw 270-7.
2)Manually press O-ring 270-9 and static ring 270-8 into stationary seat room 239.

3)Safety flange 246 is mounted as follows, insert anti-rotating dowel 261 into the

prescriptive groove of static ring 270-8, fasten safety flange 246 with screw 260.
4)Mount stationary seat room 239 which has been assembled already with gasket 280 on
intermediate flange 7 by screw 251.

When assembly the teflon O-ring, see the notation of page 1.
