Aerial Closure specification and installation

manual
Description

The Aerial closure is free breathing, meaning they are purposely built to allow for free air circulation of
ambient outdoor air through th splice, allowing condensation to drain way. It is suitable for straight, butt, and
branch splices of non-pressurized communication cables. The closure are protected from UV, animals and
weather.

Aerial closure is a single piece aerial closure easily used in installation and maintenance of aerial telecom
cables. The one piece construction permits complete splice access, without removal of the closure or bonding
of the cables.

The closure consists of closure body, end seals and other essential components. The closure body is a
lightweight, double-walled and molded plastic housing. It is weather and ultraviolet ray resistant. The
durable housing will not crack or break in even the harshest environment.

The rubber end seals have life span and have enough elastic force. They are used on either side of the closure
to accommodate various sizes of cables and prohibit rain/dew/dust from entering chamber. Other
components are attached to the closure.

Features:
 One-piece construction Provides easy installation  no loose parts
 Double walled molded construction  Resists breaking or cracking
 Interlocking ends  Extendible for long sheath openings
 Hanger/bonding system  No external or additional bonding material required
 Quick release latch  Easy re-entry
 Attached sheath retention (SR) bracket (only for rigid  Protects cable sheath pull-out or movement
bond)
 Rubber and spiral end seals  One size fits multiple cable configurations

Application Environments
The closure system can resist the following environmental condition:
Environmental Temperature: -40C to +65C
Pressure: 70~106Kpa
Operation Temperature: -30℃~+65℃

Installation Instruction

1. Use ruler to measure the circumferential length of cables

to confirm the opening point of end caps: Wrap the ruler
around the cable for one circle, notice in what area the
symbol “Δ” points at (like C in picture 1)..

2. Puncture and cut through range letter on front

side of each seal.

3. Install the End Cap: For broken cable, pass it

through the hole in the End Cap; For unbroken cable, use
the knife to cut the End Cap along the strait slot, put the
cable in it (Picture 3).

4. Use PVC tape to wrap along End Cap Circumference one

circle to prevent cracking (Picture 4).

4
5. Sheath Opening: Remove the cable sheath as per
requirement (About maximum sheath opening length of
each enclosure, please check the main parameters of
enclosure). Cut the cable sheath and shield layer for 3
cm longitudinally starting from the broken interface
enabling to install shield continuity wire. Jointing cables:
Joint the cables as per telecom sector standard and then
bind it tightly.

6. Wrapping joint: Starting from the middle part of

joint, use Joint wrap tape to bind the joint with
overlap length of 1/2 tape width then use PVC tape
to wrap the joint sparsely to fix the joint.

7. Installing Enclosure Body: After adjusting the

position of Enclosure Body and cable sheath
opening point, hang the Enclosure Body on the
Suspension Line. Chose symbol A or B according
to Suspension Line size (Picture 7). A is for 7/2.0
or bigger than 7/2.0 suspension lines and B is for
7/2.0 or smaller than 7/2.0 suspension lines.

8. Use wrench to press the Suspension Line tightly.

5
9. Fixing splice bundle and Enclosure Body: Bind
the splice bundle tightly with fixing panel on the
Enclosure Body with nylon tie-wrap. Install Shield
Continuity Wire: Put the shield continuity wire
clamp at the 3cm cable sheath cut point, clamp it
tightly with pliers and wrap tightly with PVC tape
(Picture 9). Use the clamp on the shorter branch
wire to connect branch cable tightly.

10. Closing the joint: Position the End Caps,

splice bundle and shield continuity wires, close
the Enclosure Body, clasp the spring buckle and
make a record on the record card.

Attachment: The marks on the circle orbit of End Caps and their corresponding
cable outer diameter
