Study of hybrid power system PV-wind at the balbala campus.

I° Introduction:

Hybrid power systems are the combination of two or many

different forms of energy (e.g. Diesel, solar, wind, hydraulic
etc.) which are used simultaneously instead of using one form
of energy as a producer of electricity, in the majority of cases
hybrid power systems are realized by one fossil energy and
another which is renewable or it is make definitely by
renewable energies only. This project will focus on the hybrid
power system of solar energy and wind energy (PV-wind). Solar
energy uses the radiation of the sun by the movement of
electrons, and wind energy uses the natural wind. The increase
in energy demand and the ineffectiveness of fossil fuels of
meeting this demand has led to the use of hybrid power
systems which use renewable energy. PV-wind hybrid system
can be operational always because it uses renewable energies
which are infinite, also this system will use battery storage in
such a way that if there is a surplus of energy there won’t be
losses. Hybrids electricity generation were often used in
isolated regions but nowadays it becomes widespread due to
the global warming caused mainly by power plants which use
fossil fuels. For example a hybrid PV-wind power system was
made in balbala campus in order to use less fossil fuel and
participate in the reduction of carbon-dioxide (CO2) in the
atmosphere.

II° Problem statement:

Using hybrid power system certainly has great effect on the

Earth. This not to say there are none, of course has every things
in this world hybrid power system (PV-wind) has negative sides
also. In summary, there is a need of understanding how hybrid
(PV-wing) in balbala campus works and see if we can ameliorate
its efficiency and see why it is not use. The following research
questions need to be addressed:
- How hybrid power system at balbala campus works?
- What is the energy output of this system?
- How can we improve its output?
- Why this system is not used by the university?

III° Objectives:
Study of hybrid power system PV-wind at the balbala campus.
The long term goal of this research paper is to discuss about the
effectiveness of the hybrid power system (PV-wind) at the
balbala campus. It aims to study at first the overall functioning
of a hybrid power system (PV-wind) in order to understand
what it is. The second part will focus on the materials use and
initial data give by the company that installed this system. And
finally it presents the effective data collected at the site in term
of time. In order to achieve the goal the project should give
information on:
- Composition of the system.
- Real output of the entire system.

IV° Preliminary literature review:

A preliminary literature review shows that this system is

effective and can be used for electricity supply to the
university. The company which has made the installation
declares that this system is operational, but the high
temperatures in the summer and current change of wind
should be taken in account.
V° Methodology:

For further research, we plan to see if this system can be

ameliorated as there is a lot of same research. On one hand
we tend to show the effectiveness of this system, on the
other hand we will the change of weather and its impact on
this system so that we can see its weakness and deny the
says of the company.

VI° Limitation:

Every study, no matter how long it takes to be conducted,

has its limitations. In this study the limitations are very large
due to the lack of material. As the fatigue will win us and the
intense heat of the sun will burn us the data collected may
have some error or even may be incorrect. In addition to this
there is a lack of time too, as we have a very limited time for
a project of such scope it may happen that we won’t study
how we can improve the efficiency of this system.

Study of hybrid power system PV-wind at the balbala campus.

VII° Conclusion:

All in all, hybrid power system (PV-wind) is the combination

of solar energy and wind energy. Hybrid power system (PV-
wind) at the balbala campus must have a good efficiency
according to the company which has installed it. But this
study will show the influence of the changing of the weather
so that its weakness will appear and really investigation can
be made in order to see if the company told the truth.
