    Graphic Novel Analysis Guide 

     
    Record the information listed below for at least one section of each chapter of Persepolis. 
     
     
    Level One   

    Visuals  Words 
    1.   List the objects or people you see in the panels.   1. Identify the caption. 
    2.  Locate three words or phrases used by the artist to 
    identify objects or people within the panels. 
    3. Record any important dates or numbers that appear 
    in the panels. 

    Level Two   

    Visuals   Words 
    2.   Which of the objects on your list are symbols?  4. Which words or phrases in the panels appear to be 
    3.   What do you think each symbol means? OR what is  the most significant? Why? 
    the image communicating?  5. List adjectives that describe the emotions portrayed 
    in the comic. 

    Level Three   
    1. Describe the action taking place in the panels.   
    2. Explain how the words in the panels clarify the 
    symbols or the idea that is being 
    communicated by the image. 
    3. Explain the message of the panels.
