Hello Everybody.. I’m Rosmira Torrado and I’m going to talk about the monument of
Bolivar Column. It is located on the city of Cucuta, North of Santander, in a neighborhood
known as Bolivar’s hill. This is an important place for people of Cucuta since it is full of
national history.
It was built up to honor the Battle of Cucuta in 1813 and it was raised on July 24th, 1883,
the date of the centenary of Simon Bolivar’s birth. Long time after, in 1981 an old cannon
was placed near to the column and in 1993 a Simón Bolívar sculpture was included.
This monument is located in a terrace that has a scenario where people carry out different
patriotic ceremonies. The column is in the middle of the terrace, the old cannon is next to
the column and the Bolivar’s sculpture is in front of it. This terrace is surrounded by some
flags from South America countries and there is a history wall, where people can read
about the important events and the battle.
Cucuta is a great place to visit if you like the history about our country because there are
many historical monuments you can go by. You should visit the Bolivar column and you
will learn about Simón Bolivar and the important events about our independence, if you
look around you will have an amazing view of the city. Finally, I invite you to visit this
monument during the military parade that takes place every year on February 28th to honor
the liberators from the battle of 1813.

Bolívar. Se encuentra en la ciudad de Cucuta, al norte de Santander, en un barrio
conocido como la colina de Bolívar. Este es un lugar importante para la gente de Cucuta
ya que está lleno de historia nacional.
Fue construido para honrar la batalla de Cucuta en 1813 y se levantó el 24 de julio de
1883, fecha del centenario del nacimiento de Simón Bolívar. Mucho tiempo después, en
1981, se colocó un viejo cañón cerca de la columna y en 1993 se incluyó una escultura de
Simón Bolívar.
Este monumento está ubicado en una terraza que tiene un escenario donde las personas
realizan diferentes ceremonias patrióticas. La columna está en el centro de la terraza, el
viejo cañón está al lado de la columna y la escultura de Bolívar está en frente de ella. Esta
terraza está rodeada por algunas banderas de los países de América del Sur y hay un
muro de historia, donde la gente puede leer acerca de los eventos importantes y la
batalla.
Cucuta es un gran lugar para visitar si le gusta la historia de nuestro país porque hay
muchos monumentos históricos que puede visitar. Debes visitar la columna de Bolívar y
aprenderás sobre Simón Bolívar y los eventos importantes sobre nuestra independencia.

My name is Rosmira Torrado, I’m 32 (Thirty two) years old and I’m from hacarí, North of
Santander, but I live in Cucuta. I’m an Environmental supervisor in Ismocol. I’m studying
on the Environmental Engineering program. I love animals and nature and I have one cat
and one dog. In my free time I like Reading and spending time with my family.

Mi nombre es Rosmira Torrado, tengo 37 años (treinta y siete) y soy de hacarí, al norte de
Santander, pero vivo en Cucuta. Soy un supervisor ambiental en Ismocol. Estoy
estudiando en el programa de Ingeniería Ambiental. Amo los animales y la naturaleza y
tengo un gato y un perro. En mi tiempo libre me gusta leer y pasar tiempo con mi familia.
