After the requisite departmental training, Shri Mittal, was posted as Assistant Controller in office of Controller of Defence

Accounts (Western Command), Chandigarh in Dec 1985. Thereafter, the Officer served in various positions in the Defence Accounts

Department viz. PAO (OR) Corps of Signal, Jabalpur; EDP Centre (Pension Disbursement), New Delhi; DCDA (Air Force), New

Delhi and Financial Advisor with Northern Command (Army), Udhampur (J&K); Naval Projects, Viz., Project– 75 and Project

Varsha; Army Headquarters, New Delhi; Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Border Roads), New Delhi and Additional

Controller General of Defence Accounts, New Delhi before taking up his present assignment of Controller General of Defence

Accounts.

During his service, Shri Mittal has also served in various ministries on deputation viz. Ministry of Defence, Ministry of

Surface Transport, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Statistics and

Programme Implementation, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games 2010 at

Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary levels.

As joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, he also held additional charges of Director General, National Museum; Director,

Nehru Memorial Museum and Library and Director, Rampur Raza Library. As Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor in Ministry

of Defence, he also held additional charges of Additional Secretary, Department of Defence and Department of Defence Production.

He has also represented Government of India in various Bilateral meetings, International conferences, seminars etc.

Shri Mittal took over as Controller General of Defence Accounts on 1 st May 2019 at apex level in Government of India. As

Controller General of Defence Accounts, he is heading Defence Accounts Department which comprises of approx. 600 IDAS officers

and 20,000 Group B & C officers/staff. Defence Accounts Department provides Accounting. Audit, Payment and Financial advice

functions to the three services viz. Army, Navy and Air Force and related establishments such as Indian Coast Guard, Ordnance

Factories, Border Roads Organization, etc.
