Complex Engineering Problem Statement

SPRING 2020
Batches: FA17-BCE-A&B, FA17-BSEE-T

The requirement of an IT university is to design a complete topology for its structure. Being network engineer you
are required to design the sample topology as per the following requirements:

✓ There are 6 sub-buildings in the university

o Admin Block (3 floors i.e. for HR, accounts and for Principal office)
o Faculty Building (2 floors)
o IT Building (2 floors)
o Class Rooms (5 floors with 20 rooms on each floor)
o Student Facilitation Center (3 floors)
o Auditorium (can accommodate 200 people at a time)

✓ As an administrative, IT building can access the data and streaming of any department to keep checks and
to manage fault tolerance.
✓ Every building have a secured router and separate floor switches to maximize network reliability (lesser
down times in case of link failures), and it will also be able to avoid unauthorized access. The switch must
shut down the effected port, in case of unauthorized access.
✓ There will be no switching loops.
✓ Principal office will have special access to HR and accounts departmental data for monitoring.
✓ IT, Faculty and Student Facilitation Center must be secured against any Telnet request that comes from other
networks.
✓ The data from Principal office is encrypted and should provide maximum security services.
✓ You must use multi-area OSPF for routing between the network.
✓ The end host must be configured for IP addresses via DHCP server. All servers are placed in IT building
e.g. HTTP server and DNS server.
✓ Apply technique to avoid wastage of IPs in Student Facilitation Center, Auditorium and Faculty Building.

Design the network as per the requirements illustrated above using Cisco Packet Tracer.
