Industrial engineering is an engineering profession that is concerned with the optimization of complex
processes, systems, or organizations by developing, improving and implementing integrated systems of
people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy and materials. Industrial Engineering is
needed if you want an organization in its best way. It focuses on so many essential aspects that are
necessary for an industry to run smoothly.

IE team works in cutting, sewing, and finishing to reduce manpower and WIP, setting line Layout
(operation breakdown) increase work efficiency, productivity, Demand forecasting, develop new design,
Develop Layout, Work with different quality tools, Bend product and seasoning development, Efficiency,
Wages and earning calculation, Scheduling, Capacity analysis, Line balancing Bottleneck removing, etc. .
They analyze CM, SMV, costing, consumption, profit- Loss. Good IE teams make a good efficient factory.
They also follow up daily production target and production achievement being responsible for
production, works in sewing line if there is any bottleneck.

Importance of IE are as follows:

 It helps in improving the quality of the products being produced.

 It improves the productivity of an industry.
 It ensures that the workers are using the right method to complete a job.
 Promotes safety, health and the working environment of the workers working on the
machine.
 Also concentrates on the Ergonomics of the worker working on the machine.
 It will ensure that the machine is in a good working condition.
 Improves efficiency of the machines.
 Makes sure that the layout of the industry is designed to reduce fatigue of the workers
 Optimizes the use of man, material and the machine.

industrial engineering is the driving force. It’s the backbone of all the other departments of an industry.

Summary of case study

– The purpose of this paper is to describe some of the key areas that influence in garment
manufacturing industries, sewing machinists suffer from several health problems, like musculoskeletal
disorder of neck and shoulder which have been attributed to poor working postures as well as to the
repetitive hand and arm movements. It causes increment in sick leaves, mental disturbances on the
working time, less productivity. The modifications to the sewing workstation of garment manufacturing
industries have great potential for improving the operator’s working postures. These can be done by
studying the ergonomic issues in industry. Hence the investigation of ergonomic issues becomes a need
in a sewing machine workstation of garment manufacturing industries.

The study includes improvement in work design, machine layout and working conditions with the
objective of providing maximum comfort to workers to enhance their health and well-being. Also study
supports to MSD (Musculoskeletal disorders) prevention efforts for garment industry workers. This
paper basically deals with the some research work related with this design and analysis.

This paper provides contemporary researchers in the areas of ergonomics in Garment manufacturing
industries with knowledge that will help them in improvement in manufacturing aspects and reduce the
fatigue of the workers.

Initially, the paper proposes a framework for understanding the techniques of the ergonomics used in
sewing machine workstation and various Garment manufacturing industries. Subsequently, the
paper introduces the software supported by various calculations and designs from the literature. The
paper offers guidance to researchers in developing, defining and presenting their research (especially in
the case of Ergonomics) in a systematic and convincing manner.
