Maternity benefits of women employees in India

Introduction -
Labour forms an integral part of the country’s economy. The Indian economy is a growing
economy, this growth should not be at the cost of welfare of the labour, particularly women’s
labour. The country should protect its labour. Maternity is an important facet of womanhood.
The women’s labour must be protected by her employers during the course of maternity. One
such protection extended by the employer to the female employee is maternity leave. The
Indian maternity rule is a second best system in the whole world,next to Canada. There were
many steps taken by the government to provide maternity leave for every working women in
India. The rule of maternity leave creates a high financial crunch or a burden on the employer.
so the employer does not hire female employees or sends out female employees after a specified
period. Due to the above mentioned problems the women are not being motivated to work in any
organstion. In the modern days the law compels the employer to provide maternity leave even
for adoptive mothers. The researcher attempts to elucidate the difficulties faced by the employer
and the women employed in the following areas.
