Have you ever seen any Indian films? This is the first time we've come by train.

• We can use the present perfect to talk about experiences in our lives up to now:
I've never been to India. I've worked in a hotel.
• We often use never and ever when we talk about experiences in our lives. We use
never in statements and ever in questions:
I've never been to India. Have you ever seen any Indian films?
• We often use This is/It's the first time with the present perfect to talk about
something that is happening for the first time:
This is/It's the first time we've come by train .

.&. Note the difference between been (to) and gone (to):
He's been to India. (He went to India but he is back now.)
He's gone to India. (He is in India now.)

We don't normally use the present perfect with finished-time expressions.


We've found oil in the garden. BUT NOT We’ve found oil in the garden yesterday.
A plane has crashed at Heathrow Airport. BUT NOT A plane has crashed at 3.15 this afternoon.

We can use the present perfect to ask if things have happened up to now, or to say that they haven't
happened up to now. This often happens with words for an unfinished time (for example today, ever, never).
Has the boss phoned today? Have you ever broken your leg?
We haven't been to Scotland this year. Mary hasn't written to me this week.

Have you ever seen a ghost? I've never seen one.
