1. Compute the value of time constant for the following transfer function.

b) Compute the transfer function of the system.
5. A second-order underdamped system yields a 12% overshoot and a settling time of 0.6
second.
a) Find ζ and ωn.
b) Write the transfer function of that system.
c) What is the value of the damped frequency of oscillation and rise time of that
system?
6. Consider the following rotational system shown in Figure Q4.2.

a) Show the equation of motion of the system.


b) If the system yields a 30% overshoot and a settling time of 4 seconds for a step
input in torque, calculate the value of J and K.
7. Figure Q4.3 shows an RLC electrical circuit where vi(t) is an input voltage in the circuit
with an inductance, L = 1 H and = 10−6 F. Analyse the system to solve for the values
of R that yield a 20% overshoot if output is vc(t).

8. A second-order closed-loop control system has the following specifications for a step
input:

transient response having 20% overshoots.

feedback system in Figure Q4.5(b). Compute the value of M and D in order to yield a
closed-loop transient response having 20% overshoot and 2 seconds settling time.
