Private Donors
Bursary Award Foundation

Dear Private Donors,

Thank you for the generous Bursary Award. I am very pleased and appreciative to learn that I
was selected as a recipient of this bursary award.
Let me briefly tell you about myself, I am an international student from Guyana, South America.
I completed my Bachelor’s degree in chemistry at the University of Guyana in 2016 and is
currently enrolled in the PhD of environmental and life science program in which I am in my
first year. I was the 2nd best graduating student in Chemistry department in 2016 and was
privileged to obtain a research fellowship award (RFA) scholarship to pursue my PhD degree
from Trent University. My area of specialty is in the field of Physics and Chemistry and I am
studying to be a research Scientist. In my current research, I am creating novel thermal energy
storage materials from soybean vegetable oil to store waste heat that would otherwise be loss
into the environment. For example, my materials being synthesized can be applied into the wall
of building particularly in the ceilings and for instance when there is winter and you turn on the
heat in your home, my material will absorbs and stores the excess heat and release it when the
internal temperature in the house drops below room temperature, therefore it can retain the heat
in the house for a longer time thereby reducing our heating bill. I am also trying to use these
materials from automobile applications in which I can capture the waste heat given off through
the exhaust and reuse it to heat the internal temperature of the car. I hope that my materials will
one day be commercialize and used for the aforementioned application.
By awarding me Bursary, you have reduced my financial burden which allows me to focus on
my studies and not too much about how I am going to survive. I will used your award to buy
food (groceries) in order to nourish my brain in order to stay healthy and focus. I hope that one
day in the near future I will also be able to help struggling students to reach their goals in the
same way as you are helping me. Thank you very much for your generosity.

Sincerely,

Navindra Soodoo (nsoodoo@trentu.ca)
