assembly. Define baffle plate diameter, thickness and baffle height of baffle cut above
the centre of baffle plate. Also define Tie rod diameter and Nos. of tie rod provided.
Each baffle wil be fixed with spacer, hence define spacer O/D and spacer thickness.
Specify no of baffles, distance for first baffle from end of tube sheet and distance
between each baffle. No. of tie holes per baffle has no siginficance for drawing but is
important for calculating nos and length of spacers in bill of material. The button 'Data
From Table' will apply Tie-Rod diameter and no of tie-rods from standard table
defined in TEMA for selected tema class (R, C or B).

The button 'Savefile' will store all the data in current datafile.

The button 'Get Data' will prompt you to select the datafile from available datafile list,
and will restore all the data from that file and become current datafile.

After completing data input click on 'OK' to draw elevation and side view of
exchanger. Give center point of extreme left face of exchanger as standard reference
point for exchanger. If 'Apply BOM' is selected in 'Standard Setting' then BOM will be
generated. (BOM will be discussed in successive chapter).

BOM Table

Bill of Material (BOM) will be generated by program itself and will be updated in BOM
table at specified Sr.No. In BOM Serial No, Part Description, Quantity, Material and
Weight are generated for selected part or assembly. In BOM table Specify distance
for each column (as specified), if any column is not required remove it from selection.
Also define text height, distance between each row and direction of table growth from
the list i.e. Upward or Downward. Now give X and Y coordinates for staring point of
BOM table or Pick the point by clicking the Pick point button. The button 'Draw' will
draw the header line of BOM table and save the data whereas button 'OK' will only
save the data.

Standard Setting

The drawing generated by program will have some standard data that will be same
for all options(commands) in program. Click option 'Update BOM' if you want to
generate bill of material while you draw any part or assembly. If update BOM is
selected part nos. are assigned to each part as specified on BOM table for assembly.
For BOM it will ask for the sr.no for BOM table , If you click OK it will apply the
generated BOM at specified No. (In case of exchanger assembly change in sr.no is
not allowed , it always starts with 1). Apply Dimension will apply major (Overall)
dimensions in exchanger assembly. Precision of dimension i.e. decimal point after
each figure are controlled by 'Decimal Precision for Dimension'. Apply Nozzle
Dimension will apply dimension to each nozzle. For straight nozzle, dimension will
apply from reference line to top face of flange (rest face side) and for inclined nozzle
dimension will apply from reference line to nozzle insertion point. The text in
dimension is controlled by text height and scale of drawing. The program will change
dimension variables to match the specified text height. Here material for various parts
are defined as per specification, so that the BOM will be generated with specified
material as requested.
Tube Layout

The option will generate Tube layout as per specified type and parameters.Select No
of passes from available list. There are different layouts for each selection of no of
passes (As specified in TEMA).Select required type for selected no on passes from
available list. (Front and back view of each arrangement will be dispalyed on screen).
Click 'Ok' button to specify different parameters for selected type.
Here we have two methods 1.Calculate no. of tubes for specified OTL (Outer Tube
Limit) 2. Calculate OTL for minimum no. of tubes to accomodate.

Specify Tube outer diameter and Pitch distance for tube layout. Aslo select the angle
of tube layout arrangement (i.e. 30,60 or 90). Specify vertical distance X and/or X1
(i.e. distance/s for groove of partition plate from center of tube sheet).

The button 'Variable distances' will allow you to change some fix distances like...

Layout Starting Distance - X direction (AX) : It is the distance in X-direction between

center of tube sheet and starting point of tube layout.

Layout Starting Distance - Y direction (AY) : It is the distance in Y-drirection between

center of tube sheet and starting point of tube layout.

Horizontal Gap between Passes H : It is the distance in X-direction between center of

tube sheet and starting point of tube layout for passes which are seperated by groove
for partition plae.

Horizontal Gap between Passes V : It is the distance in X-direction between center of

tube sheet and starting point of tube layout for passes which are seperated by groove
for partition plae.

Distance from OTL to Top Row : It is the minimum distance in Y-direction between
outer surface of tube in top most row to Top point of OTL circle (Higher distance is
required to weld impingment plate).

Distance from OTL to Bottom Row : It is the minimum distance in Y-direction between
outer surface of tube in bottom most row to Bottom point of OTL circle.

Radial Clearance for tubes: It is the minimum radial distance for tube to the surafce
which decides the pass boundry (i.e. OTL, Groove for partition Plate etc.).
No of Tie Rods : There should be provision for tie-rods in tube sheet, Normally
position of these tie-tods will fall in tube layout, therefore no. of position of holes will
be addition to No. of Tubes required.

The Button 'Tube Count' will count no. of tubes in each pass and total no of tubes that
can be accomodated for specified OTL and other parameters.

The Button 'OTL Count' will calcuate no. of tube for specified parameters and check
with required minimum no of tubes. If it is less than required, OTL will increase by
value as specified in OTL increment, and tubes will be counted again till it reaches
the required no. of tubes. ( So for first approximation of OTL specify lower OTL and
higher OTL increment @25 mm. where as for precise OTL specify OTL as one step
down from OTL after first approximation and lower OTL increment @ 1 mm). Once
OTL is fixed program will try to apply equal no of tubes in each pass by varying the
distance between each pass. This process is confined by some parameters as
specified in 'Settings' against OTL count. i.e. Percentage variation is the variation
allowed as percentage of total no of tubes, If defined variation in minimum nos. of
tube is lower than percentage of total tubes it will check with variation in minimum of
tubes rather than percentage variation. Sometimes it is not posible to arrange for
equal no of tubes within range and with specified parameters, then this endless
process will be stopped after specified Max . no of iterations.

Once No of tubes or OTL is fixed then select type of tube sheet by clicking the button
'Type' under heading of Side view of tube sheet and define various parameters of
tube sheet by clicking the button 'Variables' under heading of side view of tube sheet.
Define Bolt hole diameter and no of holes. This wil automatically calculate the 'Hole
Start Angle' so that the holes are straddled across the axis of the tube sheet.

Also select that how tube sheet layout will be drawn i.e. Draw tube holes or draw only
center marks or both.

Click on button 'OK' to draw tube layout at specifed point, It will draw both views (i.e.
front tube sheet and rear tube sheet).Once layout is drawn, it will ask for the insertion
point of text and height of text to write selected variables in the drawing.

Nozzle ANSI
The standard flange table will be ANSI Table. Here concept is select pipe & flange
and select the portion of exchnager where it will be fixed and it's related dimensions.
Parameters for nozzle data are discussed below.

On right side of the screen there is a nozzle list which indicates how many nozzles
are connected to exchanger. Each nozzle is designated by the 'Description' (or say
Service) of Nozzle. Click on 'Add Nozzle' for adding nozzle in the nozzle list, 'Delete
Nozzle' option will delete nozzle from the nozzle list. Select nozzle from nozzle list,
now change in parameter will change the data for selected nozzle only.

Select pipe size and schedule from available list or specify the pipe O/D and pipe
thickness if made out of plate. Select flange type from available list i.e. 'SORF,
'WNRF', 'SORF (HUB) & 'LONG NECK' and its Rating. Here face type means how its
top surface looks like i.e. tongue/groove or male/female or simple rest face type
flange.

There are eight options for nozzle fixing. Position of nozzle and orientation degree
(i.e. Absolute degree of nozzle to be drawn in elevation) for different arrangement are
as follows:

On Left End: Orientation degree has range from 90 to 270 degree. X-Distance will be

(i.e. orientation degree is 270 degree) Y distance will be from center line of shell to
nozzle insertion point and nozzle height will be height from nozzle insertion point to
top of flange (rest face side).

Specify the R.pad thickness and width, If R.pad is not required specify R.pad
thickness as zero. If nozzle size is less than 2 1/2" NB and R.pad thickness is zero,
Nozzle stiffener will be provided automatically on the side where minimum stiffener
length is required.
If Nozzle is supplied with the blind flange then click on 'Provide Blind Flange'.

On right side of screen there will be 'Nozzle Orientation' that is required for the plan
view. Here radial degree is the angle at which nozzle will be welded on the shell and
absolute degree is the angle of nozzle with horizontal plane. Radial distance will be
required only when nozzle will be fixed on Top or Bottom end. The button 'Calculate
Distances' will calculate X-Distance required for Elevation from given radial degree
and radial distance. Whereas the button 'Calculate Radial Distance : Elevation' will
calculate X-Distance required when nozzle will be radially placed on Top or Bottom
end from the specified orientation degree.

For parameters X-Distance, Y-Distance and height of nozzle, change in any

parameter will be reflected on other.

Nozzle BS

The standard flange table will be BS Table. All the parameters are same as
discussed above.

Separate Nozzle

In this option the nozzle can be separately drawn irrespective of exchanger assembly
data. All the parameters are same as specified in the topic 'Nozzle' . The standard
flange table will be ANSI Table. Select pipe size and schedule from available list or
specify the pipe O/D and pipe thickness if made out of plate. Select flange type from
available list i.e. 'SORF, 'WNRF', 'SORF (HUB) & 'LONG NECK' and its Rating. Here
face type means how its top surface looks like i.e. tongue/groove or male/female or
simple rest face type flange. Define nozzle height as distance from nozzle insertion
point to top of flange face (rest face side) and angle of nozzle with horizontal plane as
Orientation Degree. Specify the R.pad thickness and width, If R.pad is not required
specify R.pad thickness as zero. If nozzle size is less than 2 1/2" NB and R.pad
thickness is zero, Nozzle stiffener will be provided automatically. Give shell thick on
which you want to place the nozzle. Also select the view to draw i.e. Elevation or Plan
view. and type of surface on which it will be placed. i.e. Flat, Inclined or Curvature. In
case curvature define diameter of curvature and offset distance from center of
curvature. In case of Inclined surface it will ask for inclination angle at time of nozzle
drawing generation. Select any two points on the inclined surface in counter
clockwise direction or input the numeric value for defining the angle. 'Draw arc at
Base' option will allow you to draw a curve at end of nozzle (near nozzle insertion
point) as curve generated by mating of two cylinders.

If you draw the plan view it will ask you for the 'Rotation about vertical plane' (by
default it is zero), The option will draw circles in plan view. If an angle is specified
other than zero it will draw ellipses in plan view. If specified angle is zero it will draw
bolt holes of flange as first hole will be placed by the 'Starting angle for bolt hole',
Other holes will be at equidistance depending upon no. of bolt holes.

Reducer Nozzle

For very small sized nozzles, sometimes it is required to put higher size nozzle at
base and put required nozzle at top with help of reducer. The parameters are same
as specified under topic 'Seperate Nozzle'. There are three more parameters which
will decide the size of bottom (higher size) pipe. Specify nozzle size, schedule and
height of bottom pipe. The program will take standard height of reducer and calculate
the height of smaller size pipe required, which is reflected in bill of material.

Manhole

For Manhole all the parameters are same as discussed in 'Nozzle Data' , but one
more button is provided e.g.. 'Handle Arm Data' that will allow you to change the
parameter of Arm and/or Handle of selected manhole.

For Manhole : Specify diameter of handle bar, height, width and distance between
handle.

For Hinged type Manhole: Specify diameter of handle bar, height, width and distance
for handle. Also give diameter of hinge bar, thickness of hinge plate, and distance
between two hinge plates which are welded on manhole cover plate. Here bottom
hinge plate on cover plate has oval hole where as others have circular hole for hinge
bar. Define washer diameter and thickness provided between hinge plates.

For Devit type Manhole (Vertical Type) : Specify diameter of handle bar, height, width
and distance between handle. Select pipe size and schedule for devit arm and bottom
pipe which is used as bush for the devit. At lower portion of bottom pipe plate will be
provided for support of rivet welded at bottom of devit pipe. Specify diameter and
length of I-Bolt through which, cover plate will be suspended on devit arm. Hook is
provided at top of the cover plate, define rod diameter for hook, height and base width
of hook.

For Devit type Manhole (Horizontal Type) : This type of manhole is same as above
but it will be welded in horizontal condition.

Coupling

Parameters for Coupling data are discussed below.

On right side of the screen there is a coupling list which indicates how many
couplings are connected to exchanger. Each coupling is designated by the
'Description' (or say Service). Click on 'Add Coupling' for adding coupling in the
coupling list, 'Delete Coupling' option will delete coupling from the coupling list. Select
coupling from coupling list, now change in parameter will change the data for selected
coupling only.

Select coupling size and rating from available list. Also specify height of coupling and
orientation degree of coupling.

Fixing type eight different options, position of coupling i.e. X-Distance and Y-Distance
will be from some reference surafce,

For On Left End, On Left shell Top, On Left shell Bottom the reference surace will be
outer surface of right flange on front end.

For On Right End, On Right shell Top, On Right shell Bottom the reference surace
will be outer surface of left flange on rear end.

For On Middel shell Top, On Middle shell Bottom the reference surace will be outer
surface of left flange on middle shell portion.

On right side of screen there will be 'Coupling Orientation' that is required for the side
view. Here radial degree is the angle at which coupling will be welded on the shell
and absolute degree is the angle of coupling with horizontal plane. Radial distance
will be required only when coupling will be fixed on Left or Right end. The button
'Calculate Distances' will calculate X-Distance required for Elevation from given radial
degree and radial distance. Whereas the button 'Calculate Radial Distance :
Elevation' will calculate X-Distance required when coupling will be radially placed on
Left or Right end from the specified orientation degree.

Support

Select support type and view from the menu to draw required type of support
separately. Different types of support are discussed below.

Bracket Support : Specify width and thickness of Base plate. here breadth
of base plate is width across the plane. Specify thickness and height of rib
plate, this rib plate has horizontal straight face at top and vertical straight face
at bottom. Specify horizontal position of rib plate from outer end of base plate
it will also calculate the width of rib plate. There are two ribs if only one rib
required then give distance between rib plates as zero. Specify the R.Pad
height i.e.. height shown in elevation, R.Pad breadth i.e.. width across the
elevation and R.Pad thickness. If R.Pad is not required then apply R.Pad
thickness as zero. Also specify the bolt hole diameter and bolt circle diameter
of bolt holes drilled on base plate. For position of bracket give distance
between bottom of base plate and extreme left of middle shell portion (outer
face of left flange on middle shell).

Saddle Support : Define thickness of base plate, length i.e. width of base
plate as seen in side view, Breadth of base plate i.e. width of base plate as
seen in elevation. Give thickness of rib and distance between ribs as per
specified no of. ribs. also select type rib arrangement i.e. keep rib plate on left
side , right side or in middle. Specify the R.Pad thickness, width i.e.. width
outside the end of rib, breadth i.e. width of R.Pad plate seen in elevation. If
R.Pad is not required then apply R.Pad thickness as zero. End gap distance
is the distance from end of base plate to end of rib plate. specify end gap
distanc for elevation and side view. Also specify distance from shell center to
bottom of base plate (i.e. height of saddle). There are four bolt holes in each
base plate of saddle. Specify diameter of bolt hole and C/C distance for oval
shaped bolt hole (for sliding support), distance between bolt holes for
elevation and side view. There are two saddles provided on shell, specify
distance for first saddle from extreem left of moddle shell portion (i.e. outer
face of left flange on middle shell) and distance between saddles, also select
type of right side saddle same as left saddle or mirror view of left saddle from
the list. In case of saddle base plate width higher than diameter of shell
specify included angle of rib plate welded to shell. For left or right side rib
plate in elevation, specify width of rib plate at top, if it is higher than width at
base, it will draw inclined rib plate. Click on 'Get Standard Data' to apply the
standard data for Base plate for skirt support. The standard data is based on
Exchaner Main shell OD.

Lifting Lug

The option will draw plate type of lifting lug at periphery of exchanger shell. Specify
thickness ,height and width of lug plate. Also define hole diameter for lug and position
of hole from outer end of lug plate. Define R.pad thickness, width and breadth across
plane if required otherwise apply R.pad thickness as zero. Normally there are two
lifting lugs one of left side and other on right side in elevation, define distance of each
lug from extreem left face of middle shell. Define chamfer distance if chamfered end
selected from the Lug type list of 'Chamfered end' and 'Curved End'. Angle position of
lug will define the position of lug in Sideview.

Flange
The option will allow you to draw Standard flange. Select flange size from available
list. Selection of pipe schedule will decide internal bore of flange. Also select flange
type and flange rating from available list. 'Provide Blind Flange' will allow you to draw
flange along with blind flange. Normally this option will draw standard flange, If you
want to draw non-standard flange then click on button 'Change Flange Data' here you
specify the different parameters of flange. By default these data are standard data
from flange table.

Dish End

The option will draw required type of DishEnd separately. Different types of Dish End
are discussed below.

End Types :

1. Torrispherical : Specify Crown Radius, Knuckle Radius, Straight face and

thickness of the end. Click on 'Get Standard Data' will apply the standard
data for Torrispherical type dish end.

2. Ellipsoidal : Specify Major Radius, Minor Radius, Straight face and

thickness of the end. Click on 'Get Standard Data' will apply the standard
data for 2:1 Ellipsoidal dish end.

3. Hemispherical : Specify the thickness of dish end

4. Pipe Cap : Specify Major Radius, Minor Radius, Straight face and
thickness of the end. Click on 'Get Standard Data' will apply the standard
data for standard Pipe Cap.

5. Cone Type : Specify cone height, Diameter of smaller end and thickness
of cone end click on 'Get Standard Data' will apply the smaller diameter as
50% of shell diameter and cone height as 20% of shell diameter.

6. Flat End : Specify the thickness of flat end.

Cone Development

This is separate utility to generate cone development specifically Eccentric type cone.
Here you specify mean diameter at large end and mean diameter at small end along
with height of frustrum of cone. Since cone development will generate continuous
curve, the diameter will be divided in to small parts and then curve will be drawn, so
define no of division with which the curve will be generated. Here we draw only half
portion of cone development because the other half is same. The calculated
dimension (i.e. length and width of top and bottom segment) are written with specified
text height (will be asked on prompt while drawing generation).

ReAdjust Start Point

The program will generate exchanger assembly and keeps the various reference
points in datafile, so that when it is required it will be taken from the file. Once you
draw the assembly it will store the reference points, but afterwards if you change the
position of assembly (i.e. Elevation and/or Sideview), You must readjust the reference
point so that then onward it will use the new reference points. Click on the command
will prompt you for the new Extreme left point of exchanger assembly on center line of
shell while your cursor will stick to the original point. Select new point or press 'Enter'
to keep original point as new point, or press 'P' if you want to change the reference
point of Side view. If you press 'P' then it will ask for the new Center point of
SideView.

Once you press 'Enter' or Select the point, it will reconfirm it and then change the
points. In option change point of 'Elevation' it will change all the reference points with
respect to previous points whereas in 'Side view' option it will change the reference
point (i.e. Center of shell circle) by keeping reference points of Elevation as it is.

Weld Details

This option will allow you to import the predefined weld details with change in
dimension/text of some of the parameters. Some of common weld details are
supplied with the program, you can also increase these details (See topic 'Update
Weld Detail'). In dialog box/window on left side there is a list of available weld details
and on right side the view of selected detail. Specify the length and width of rectangle
in which the selected detail will be placed and rescaled as per specified dimensions.
The button 'Pick Distance' will allow you to select boundary area from the
screen/drawing area. Also specify the text height with which the prefined changeable
parameters will be written. Here your specified text height will be multiplied by
drawing scale and then text will be written (so that the text height is the height
required for Output of drawing on paper/hardcopy). At bottom the reference size of
selected detail is shown. It is the size with which originally detail was generated. If
you 'Apply with Reference Size' is selected, the detail will be drawn with reference
size and increased by the drawing scale. Click 'OK' to draw the detail and if any
changeable parameters are defined in the detail, user will be prompted for the
required changeable data with some default value. The details supplied with the
program are in large nos. and it is very difficult to find the required detail from long
list. Hence we have divided the detail under its related head so that when you click on
specific heading then only sorted details will be available in the selection list. Different
heading for details are,

Standard Weld Details

This option has same function as specified in topic 'Weld Detail' the only difference is,
that you can apply the value of changeable parameters from values defined in
exchanger assembly or from the available standard data. Say for example you want
to place Standard Manhole detail, Now in changeable parameter's screen you have
the button 'Get Default' which will replace your changeable default values with the
values defined for manhole in Vessel Assembly. The button 'Get Standard' will
replace your changeable default values with the values defined in standard data table
(If available otherwise it will be non-selective grey button).
