Over the past several years, Track-Type Tractor track rollers have been standardized
within each Undercarriage model size to a standardized design. The new design
separates the mounting end caps from the roller shaft and seal collar, which results in
better oil retention. The rollers are serviced only as a group and are not rebuildable.

This design requires specific roller cap assembly and bolt torque procedures. This
publication will define the procedure and torque values, as the publication was not
published in detail when each new model size of roller was released.

The roller cap is a "solid abutment" style cap. This design is used on several other
Track-Type Tractor track rollers and idlers. One side of the cap is taller than the other.
After assembly, the taller side will be the "solid abutment" side, and the shorter side will
have a gap between cap and frame.

The bolt on the taller side must be tightened first. The words "TIGHTEN FIRST" are
visible on the cap on the taller side. The cap and bolt on the gapped side provides the
required clamping force to hold the roller shaft in place.

Assembly Procedure

1. Verify that track roller frame mounting surfaces are clean and flat.

2. Slide the roller cap over the end of the shaft.

3. Place track rollers on track roller frame so that the flat part of the shaft is against
the track roller frame.

4. Apply anti-seize to bolt threads. Install track roller bolts and washers through the
cap and into the track frame.

5. Tighten bolt on the side (3) that is marked "Tighten First" to proper torque.
Refer to Table 1 for proper torque.

6. Tighten the bolt on the gapped side (4) to the proper torque. Refer to Table 1 for
proper torque.

7. A 2 mm (0.08 inch) to 3 mm (0.12 inch) gap will remain between cap and roller
frame.

8. Repeat for the cap on other end of roller shaft.

Roller Cap And Bolt Re-Use Guidelines

Track roller caps are reusable if the track frame and bolt head abutment surfaces are flat
and there are no cracks in the cap.

Track roller bolts may be reused if threads are not stripped or galled, and the bolt heads
are in good condition.
