Introduction – The importance of oil and gas

We are crossing an energetic

transition different from those that
went before from the beginning of
the industrial era.
In the past what decided the
direction to be taken were the
dynamics of the market, the
infrastructures, and the advances in
the technology fed by the use of the
coal first, and then by the
hydrocarbons.
Presently, the processes are guided
by the protection of the
environment, for a transition aimed
at reducing the impact of man’s
activity.

Introduction – The importance of oil and gas

«…. Then a second phase,

the most recent one, a
great long-term plan to
2050, started last year.
A very ambitious plan, a
trasforming industrial
strategy, maybe the
biggest and most
incredible of all Eni history
that will profoundly
change the company.
Emma Marcegaglia, Eni President
Farewell message (Eni video), May 4, 2020

A strategy to 2050 that will allow Eni to remain an integrated industrial

company, with a new upstream made by the gas and the renewable energies.
All the remaining productive and industrial processes will be transformed in a
sustainable way and all our products will be totally decarbonized. Thanks to this
strategy we will be able to reduce by 2050 our emissions of 80%. …»

Energy consumption forecast 2016-2040

Evolving Transition (ET) = policies and

technological development will evolve with
the same trend of the recent past.
Internal combustion engine ban (ICE)
= ban of cars equipped by internal
combusiton motor.
Less gas switching = policies supporting
a modest transition from coal to gas.
Renewables push (RE push) = policies
supporting a transition to renewable
energies.
Faster transition (FT) = policies
supporting a faster transition to renewable
energies.
Even faster transition (EFT) = policies
supporting an even faster transition to
renewable energies.
