Reflection

Geographically speaking, our country is located in a disaster prone area. We are along
the pacific ring of fire and we are surrounded by large bodies of water. Thus, making us
vulnerable to different disasters. We are placed on a high rate of hazards and risks. Combining
hazards, risks, and vulnerability will result to disaster. As our way to combat disaster is our Risk
Management. We really cannot fight off disasters for it’s a natural phenomenon and it happens
anytime and anywhere. It is inevitable. But that doesn’t mean we are just bound to experience
disaster and its effect, we can manage the risks to a tolerable level making casualties less. With
the right amount of preventive measures and precautionary preparations we could lessen the
effects of disasters. As a NSTP Student it is beneficial for us to learn applying first aid. A simple
knowledge of first aid could make a difference between life and death. Having this basic
knowledge of bandaging is very vital in our daily lives. We never know when we will need it or
when we can use it. I remember the moment when I back in High school when I was commuting
back home. I was crossing the road that time along with different people then there was a guys
who was hit by a motorcycle and it dragged him on a distance. The guy was wounded. I was
there shocked and I don’t know what to do but thank God there was a woman who was able to
apply first aid and made some bandages over his wounds. Based on that experience, if it
weren’t for that woman, the guy might experience serious injuries. It was her knowledge about
first aid that saved that guy’s life. As for me, being able to know and practice bandaging I am
ready to what might came. I, personally pledge that if ever I get to encounter accidents or
disasters I will not hesitate to help others. As a NSTP student providing help is what I am trained
for. It is true that we are the hope of the nation, during disasters and calamities, we youths play
an important role. We serve as hope. That during the times where our fellowmen fell on the
ground, it is us youth to rekindle hope by extending our hands and volunteering to serve them in
their times of need.
